Fallujah is more like the battle for Hue, in which it was necessary to destroy the city in order to save it. Marine casuality rates were similarly high in both engagements. And of course the deepest similarity is that both battles were in the end totally futile wastes of American lives (to say nothing of the horrifying loss of innocent civilians caught in the middle).

5. empires have profound ability to waste resources and lives.
what empires frequently lack -- and we are certainly living this out now -- is an ability to think, adapt and change.

we will throw ourselves -- if we haven't already -- off the cliff of insolvency just to prove we are right.

2. Why would anyone care what bush** says about any battle. He
went AWOL when it was his turn to fight. Poopy came to his rescue getting him into the TANG and getting him out.

Poopy is coming to his rescue (if that's possible) again.

And there is a possibility that Poopy bailed on his crew without telling them their plane had been hit.

Maybe it runs in the family.

8. bush is still delusional, still idealizing war, still being backed up by daddy-o.
bob gates is said to have funded osama bin laden in the 80s, when the reagan/bush/reagan were the oval office people... bush 1 idealizes war, so does bush 2. they haven't moved forward. they want america to swallow their whole bunch of crock even after america has said, no. no. and no to them.

9. "Please explain what you mean by that - how are they the same - how
are they different. Or, can you maybe start by explainign what Guadalcanal was? What war was it? What happened there?"

"Umm, what I mean by that is that Guadalcanal is now seen with reverence by the American people of all political stripes. And when I say that Fallujah will be spoken of with reverence, I mean that just like Guadalcanal is spoken of with reverence, that's how Fallujah will be spoken of."

12. This is probably the most idiotic statement
ever made by Bush, and it boggles the mind how many he's made. The Fallujah assault was against the whole population of that city causing widespread death, destruction and the displacment of most of it's citizens. Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal was a WW2 battle to regain and dismantle Japanese enemy installations. It did not involve the death, destruction and displacement of civilians.
This is perhaps the most shameful bunch of shit that has ever been spewed by that SOB.
