Fascinating interactive election analysis map of US on NYT site
Edited on Sat Nov-11-06 03:02 PM by JudyM
There are many ways of looking at the data here - including examining the shifts in margin of victory for particular locations between the '04 and '06 elections:

3. Hmm. Not bad, but not as fun to explore or as informative, IMO. nt

2. The rural and urban breakdown is interesting (and sort of surprising) >
The NYT demographic criteria show a tie, 95-95, in suburban districts. Dems lead 25-21 in Rural districts and 66-18 in Urban districts.

In 2004 the Republicans led in suburban districts 109-84. The changes in urban and rural vs. 2004 are much smaller.

Among "White" districts Republicans cratered, from 51-17 in 2004 to a mere 37-30 lead in 2006.

(Many districts are too mixed to be categorized as one or the other and Republicans obviously lead in mixed districts, since we don't have a 48 seat lead in House)
