Bolton replacement?
While the NYT article on the subject mainly spoke of the machinations that the Bush
administration might employ to keep Bolton in the post, buried in the article were
names possibly being floated as replacements.

#4 was extremely interesting, Lincoln Chafee himself.

This led to a dinner table discussion among the family and the concensus was... Bill Clinton?

Pro-arguements we came up with were;
A) Betcha he wants to
B) He loves to be in the thick of intl' politics
C) He lives in New York, it would be just a cab ride to work
D) The World & the U.N. would love it
E) Would be a great way for the Bushies to show their newly-found "bipartisanship"

Con?
1) Working for Bush? Eww..
2) the Cons would never stand for it

What else?

1. I heard the Pubs were looking for a spot for Steel. Maybe he would
make a good replacement.

2. I don't think that the Big Dog would
play by BushCo rules at the U.N. I also don't think they will voluntarily give the name Clinton any major exposure now that people are looking at '08.

Bush should send Powell back to the UN - where he'll spend all day every day apologizing for being a lying bastard

4. It'll be tough to replace Bolton...
Clinton would do an excellent job, which is why I doubt he would be allowed to be the ambassador. Bolton was chosen because (in addition to being rewarded for his illegal obstruction of the recount) he wouldn't be cooperative or make things run more smoothly. A good portion of the cabal in power right now want the UN destroyed, or at least weakened. Finding someone with Bolton's tlaent for stirring the pot will be difficult.

Now, I'll believe that the PNACers have a lot less power at the moment, but I honestly don't know if this means us working more closely with the UN now.
