With Feingold out, . . .
who is on the horizon, other than Gore, that the progressives can support? This progressive sees zero at this point.

1. Edwards is starting to look ok
But I really want to take the holidays off and come back in January with a fresh eye;I have spent 4 1/2 months as precinct captain helping to get the corner office back for Democrats in MA. I estimate I have personally knocked upon 1,200 doors. Phone calls too numerous to keep track of.

2. Unless something drastic has changed
since 2004, I don't see it. He doesn't even currently hold political office so any "changes" would be ideological at best.

10. And, he's not?
Why? Because the beltway pundits don't seem to know about him? Or because you didn't read his very progressive platform from 2004?

36. or because most progressives seem to see a military uniform
and assume that he can't POSSIBLY be a progressive.

Give him a chance. This progressive thinks he'd be a really good candidate.

Especially if he declares early, rather than very late as he did in '04 - give people time to get to know him - and it looks like he will be deciding early this time.

8. CLARK/OBAMA '08!!!!
Edited on Sun Nov-12-06 09:05 AM by rocknation
He was my first choice in '04 because HE DOESN'T TAKE RETHUG CRAP. More important, he wouldn't be dependent on getting name recoginition from the MSM because HE DOESN'T TAKE MSM CRAP, either. Look how vigorously the MSM is ignoring him already!

My, but he's one handsome man isn't he? :loveya:

He's intelligent, strong, hard-working, liberal and, most importantly, accepted in swing states as a, hee hee, moderate.

aren't solidly behind General Wesley Clark. This Disabled Veteran was surprised to learn it was his hatred of all things military that was the problem.

were ACTING like an SOB in another thread - and that has NOTHING to do with other progressives who actually think Clark is a very progressive and viable candidate.

17. John Kerry.
This progressive liberal will continue to support John Kerry.

Funny, most of the time when I ask non-blogging liberals who they like best, they'll start muttering about electability issues and come up with a variety of names. When I then ask, "forget electability - who, in your mind, would govern best, according to your values?" - many of them, after hemming and hawing, admit it's John Kerry.

I like someone with liberal goals who finds ways to make progress towards those goals. That's what I mean when I call myself a progressive liberal, and that's why I'll support someone who has a progressive liberal track record, like Kerry.

20. Senator Kerry!
Without question, there will be those who claim progressive positions to drum up support. This, of course, is ironic considering the recent attempts to denounce the impact of progressive positions had on the election.

34. Me too!
I supported Kerry all the way in 2003/2004. I'll do so again because I think, aside from Gore, he has the most experience in a variety of areas that would allow him to be a successful President in both domestic and foreign policy. He's also a real consnensus builder, IMHO, among those with whom he works most closely.

22. How do you define "progressive"?
If you are looking for someone much more "progressive" than those mentioned, I suspect you are actually looking for a "radical".

"progressive" = making incremental progress, which allows those affected on all sides to adjust, thus avoiding violent upheaval, while steadily working to improve society.

"radical" = create immediate major changes, which cause at least some affected people to suffer drastic life consequences, motivating violent reaction. Radical change can bring quicker social improvement, but has a high risk of backlash, causing a net negative effect on achieving liberal goals.

I have noticed that many people with radical political goals want to call themselves progressive. I guess it's because calling themselves what they are - radicals - does not play so well with the public. Well, I don't appreciate it. If someone wants change to occur radically, they should admit it, and call themself what they are - a radical, NOT a "progressive."

23. Here's a radical idea:
Let's resurrect the guy in your sig line as a U.S. citizen, and run him.

Or, let's find someone that enlightened already here, and run that person. Would that be considered progressive, or radical?

25. Feingold likes Obama and Gore :)
I think we should look to our favorite people to guide us, then the disappointment won't be so painful.

At this time, and since 2003, I'm an Edwards supporter. Should he not go for the gold, I will be very disappointed because I know he has the judgment, vision and compassion to lead. Then I will look to him to show me who shares his heart and mind for 2008, and support that candidate.

I've already lost two candidates on my Top 5 Wish List (Feingold and Warner)

a one termer, but if he runs could be the dark horse we are looking for.

He's smart as a whip, funny, populist, a take no prisoners campaigner and Trumanesque.

32. I would enthusiastically support him if he ran
Right now I want Al Gore to run, but if Brian Sweitzer decided to run, I think he could mop up the field. Wouldn't it be ironic if he was able to the "electability" meme against the Washington establishment Democrats? Believe me, he would have a whole lot more red-state appeal than any of the sorry lot of potential candidates we have now.

30. My preferences in order---Not asking anyone to agree.
John Kerry

Al Gore

Wes Clark

I like them all. I think they are all on the side of good---I am most familiar with Kerry. I am biased in favor of all three because I feel that they have been screwed by the media in descending order.

I could add Dr Dean too but I dont know where to put him.
