Poll question: Yet another 2008 Presidential poll
All speculation aside, so far two Democrats have actually indicated they might seek the 2008 nomination.

2. From what I've seen of Vilsack - not a huge amount of that
old "charisma" going for him. Biden oozes it. The winner from whatever party will have to win the "charisma" contest. Not how things should be....just reality.

7. "ooze" being the operative word
regarding Biden; he propels himself, like a snail, on a track of his own slime.

21. Oh, if not for my new pledge, I'd say something.
But no, I shall be a good girl and merely say that Biden is not my first choice, and neither do I agree about his charisma. Neither of these would be my first choice, or even my second or third. But I have to see more of Vilsack.

4. list of people I want to run
I want one of these guys to run, and to pick one of the list to be the VP. Any combination of these people would do a great job (Barack Obama, Al Gore, John Edwards, or Wesley Clark). The best would be Gore/Obama with Clark as the potential Sec. of Defense and John Edwards as the Attorney General.

5. Clark can't be Secretary of Defense.
Federal Code requires that the Def. Sec. be out of active-duty military for 10 years before being appointed. In 2008, Clark will only have been out of the service for eight years.

President or Secretary of State.

17. How about some midwesterners?
Liberal enough to work on the coasts, conservative to get the midwest and south. Maybe.

South Dakotans Tim Johnson and Tom Dashle come to mind, as do North Dakotans Kent Conrad and Byron Dorgan. Johnson defeated Thune in '02, who went to take out Dashle in '04, and rumor has it Thune (former lobbyist) might be being groomed for a presidential run. Perhaps with Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty. Dorgan seems to be really anti-globalization, which IMHO is a good thing.

Feingold said he won't run. Herbert Kohl from Wisconsin I have little about, but he seems to be on the conservative side. Minnesota has a new senator (go Amy!) and a friggin' Repub, Norman "Colecreature" Coleman, that Al Franken may take on in '08.

19. Isn't Iowa in the midwest?
It was in my day. Of course, back then, a nickle had a picture of a bee on it. You'd ask for change from a quarter saying "give me five bees".

22. Iowa? Iowa? Hmmm...doesn't ring any bells
LMAO

Sorry, it just seems that Iowa only exits for the first two months of a leap year, then *pfft* it's gone again.

Iowa was mentioned already. That former governor, Vilsnick or whatever. Just trying to bring up people besides Edwards, Obabma, Clinton, and Clarke.

Biden was part of that blind Judiciary Committee
that approved Clarence Thomas despite all indication he was a liar on several fronts - not only regarding Anita Hill. I have no trust for that man.

And no particular feelings for Vilsack one way or the other.

I choose OTHER.

11. Did anyone watch Vilsack's announcement video?
I was surprised by how personable he was. Not nearly as dry as I had imagined.

By the way, if you include Biden, you can probably include Dodd with the same amount of certainty:
(From Wikipedia)"In April 2006, Dodd told the Associated Press he's considering running for president in 2008, saying, "it's an itch. Could grow, could disappear." On May 22, 2006 he told the Hartford Courant he had met with key backers , including congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, and was assembling a team to prepare for the 2008 presidential campaign. In June of 2006, he held his first major Presidential fundraiser, stunning many beltway commentators by raising over $1 million in one night. <1> Dodd also plans to attend a Florida state Democratic convention in July 2006, which the Hartford Courant newspaper terms a first step in garnering support."

13. I'm not sure if Vilsack is just gullible, really polite, or as thick as three planks.
Canada's most indelible impression of Tom Vilsack came during a segment of "This Hour Has 22 Minutes" on CBC a few years ago, when he was interviewed by a Canadian TV personality and comic genius named Rick Mercer. From Wikipedia:

One of Mercer's trademark comedy routines on 22 Minutes was "Talking to Americans" in which he would travel to major American cities and conduct on-the-street interviews with average Americans regarding Canadian politics, the weather, etc., often with hilarious results as the subject's ignorance about Canada was illustrated. One famous example saw Mercer asking Americans' opinion on whether Canada should change its "20 Hour Clock" to the 24 hour one used by the United States. He received approval from citizens and the Governor of Iowa Tom Vilsack. On another occasion he got the support of Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee in calling on Canadians to save the "National Igloo."

Mercer made international headlines in 2000 when he pulled a "Talking to Americans" stunt on then-presidential candidate George W. Bush. He successfully got Bush to answer questions about non-existent Canadian Prime Minister "Jean Poutine" (a play on the real politician's name, Jean Chrétien and popular Canadian -- especially Québécois -- dish poutine). Bush was not amused at the time, and has since then refused to accept any interviews from the CBC...

only because he's from a neighboring state. I'm pretty lukewarm to both of those guys.
