If your still pissed about the '04 election, get off the stage.
Get over it, its over, passed into history and not worth wringing our hands over for one second. When well-meaning fools who go right to it after so long, make me want to scream. It makes Democrats look bad. We look like craven, power hungry for its own sake, neo-liberals.Sore losers more concerned with our own prestige than the good of our nation.Al Gore and John Kerry have accepted the results and moved on, we should too.

There's a saying in golf, "Play it where it lies" and thats what I think our newly democratic congress should do. Don't go back, go forward. Demonstrate GRAVITAS for the nation. See what needs doing and set about it with dispatch. When starting a new job you often must start by picking up all the crap already on the last guy's desk, and do it, solve it or delegate it as required. This is the sort of tone thats called for in our newly democratic congress. No rancor, just workman-like determination to get things done.

Every once in while the good of the nation aligns itself nicely with good politics. This is one of those times.

2. Would you like us to put our fingers in our ears and say "La La LA' too?
We have to investigate expose and correct the decencies in our vote process. To all the do nothing suggestions I say "Go do yourself".

3. welcome to DU, cleveramerican...
just what I hope you'll take as a friendly little tip.... It appears that you may be relatively new to DU. If that is the case, you might want to hold back telling everyone on this forum what to think... You probably won't take my advice, but this is a very devisive issue-- though I understand where you are coming from. There are still very serious issues with election security and electronic voting that must be dealt with prior to 2008...

9.  I seek to convince no one
I assume everyone arrives at a site like this with their opinions fully formed. I would never tell anyone what to think, I will always tell anyone who'll listen what I think. Thanks for the tip and the welcome .

4. you don't mind if a *real* investigation happens first do you? you don't have
any objections if a few rocks are looked under in, oh say, OHIO, do you? i mean it only looks, smells, walks and talks like chicago and louisiana of old. so, you don't have real problems with some double checking on just what went on there do you?

too fucking bad.

7. I agree...
You can't change 2004, but you can fight for paper ballots, voting rights, and substantial investigations of wrongdoing by the current administration.

That is right after or while you reinstate the oversight comittees, kick K-Street in the nads and get some healthcare and minimum wage legislation going.

Lots to do. Learn from it and move forward, even if all you learn is to distrust electronic voting and restrictive voter initiatives.

8. major voting problems in 04, many in 06
Edited on Sun Nov-12-06 05:51 PM by bobbieinok
Maybe don't OD on it, but if WE don't do something about the election system --

--the machines will be there to be 'played with'

--many more cities like Denver will go from ca 800 polling places to ca 50 voting centers with long lines, etc

--etc etc etc

IMO, those who want to forget/disregard voting problems are just 'head in the sand' pollyannas.

10. Must be new to DU....
This was a popular place to study electronic election fraud...

get over it you say....and let them steal another one?

Gore and Kerry were elected by the people, but the people do not get their presidents!

Bush's destructive policy will effect the next 50 years at least! Get over it? All is better now? Cuz we won. Not so...the work is still there...and so are electronic voting machines!

Educate yourself!

INVESTIGATIONS, INVESTIGATIONS, INVESTIGATIONS

I want every single penny that was stolen from the American People to be extracted PAINFULLY from these criminals and deposited back into the Treasury.

12. Well, democracy was stolen
and they got away with it. The threat remains that they can and will do it again. They tried to in this last election, only the tidal wave was too great this time. If you choose to ignore the consequences of when the will of the people is denied and your government turns to fascism and imperialism then that's your business. However, I'm not stupid enough to follow you. Democracy matters to me.

13. Investigate!
INVESTIGATE!

The truth will be their own downfall, because they're all crooks.

They've already done enough damage to this country with the stripping away of civil liberties, and corporate profiteering. If the Dems didn't win congress in this last election, who knows how far the Bush administration would have gone? I shudder to think!

It's time to take this country back.

I'm all for bipartisanship, and working together, but not before the true crooks get their due. Every single American deserves no less if we're going to correct the problem of corruption.
