1. hillary will sure as hell FUNDRAISE like she's running
she increases her clout as a senator by keeping her name on the national stage.

actually running is a somewhat different calculus, but she certainly will stretch it out as long as possible if she's not running.

personally, i think she WILL run. it'll be interesting and telling to see what bills she attaches her name to.

2. Hillary win run.
She's not dismantling her campaign or fundraising structure in the wake of her landslide victory on Nov 7th. Plus, even if she ran and lost she'd always be able to be a senator. NY loves her.

3. I've pondered that Hillary may sit it out...
IF she does, she wil endorse Wesley Clark, pour her money into his effort, and run as his Vice President. Clark is very close to the Clinton's and they'd only do this if they felt the time wasn't right for Hillary to run for President. They would instead run her as VP and Clark would have a strong edge for President.

4. Interesting...
I'm trying to put myself in Hillary's shoes to determine if she will run. It seems to me that there's more upside to remaining in the Senate and becoming a very, very powerful player in the Senate than there is to tossing the dice on a Presidential bid....and the fund raising? It works both ways, she has a huge war chest to scare off potential opponents and, if she wants, she can do a Herb Kohl and give money to other candidates thereby making herself both a "Kingmaker" and collecting IOUs in the Senate....

btw: You didn't mention my favorite, Wes Clark.

5. Preferred Characteristics of Our Candidate

I think what we need to look for in a Presidential candidate is

- Governor, not Senator or Congressman/woman
Governors have executive experience. Most importantly, it is harder to pick apart their voting record and paint them as a flip flopper as it is with legislative background

- Not from a Blue State
Preferably from a red state, but at the very least, a purple state. The reason being, these are candidates who know how to win in areas we will need to win to claim the White House.
This is what intrigues me about Brad Henry. He was elected to a second consecutive term in Oklahoma, which is supposedly rare there.

- Charima
I know John Kerry would have made a great president, but he was a lousy candidate. I won't say he had no charisma, it just didn't show on television or in large crowds.

- Clean
The Republicans will be digging for dirt like it's diamonds. Make that squeaky clean.

Of course we want some one strong on the issues, but I'd rather not ask them, "well, would you have voted for the Iraqi War or not?" It's a stupid question. They have the benefit of hindsight, they don't have the same information the Senators/Congresspeople did when the vote was on the floor. Unless you can find statements made in 2002 about Iraq, skip it. Ask them what they think our next steps should be and judge accordingly.

Don't ask how they feel about abortion, flag burning, etc - ask which Supreme Court justices they admire, or what rulings they like/dislike the most.

Ask what their priorities would be.

8. I forgot the name of the radio show I was listening to
but a psychic was a guest on a show and her big prediction was that Hillary would not run for President and the Democratic nominee would be someone not mentioned in the press nor on the Internet.

Who knows?
