And for my other DU compatriots, out of respect for the many Feingold supporters, shouldn't people back off and let them be without hastily discussing the parlaying of their disappointment into a benefit for any other candidate?

I like to post as hardball and tough as anyone, but sometimes letting supporters devoted to their preferred candidate have some grieving space is just the right and human thing to do.

2. Feingold was near the top of my list of potential candidates. He's a true patriot
and I for one am sad that he's not running.

On the other hand, our loss may be his gain.

Can you imagine having to go through that mill?

He's now in the Senate majority, and I know he will kick some ass and take some names there. Anybody know if he's in line for a committee Chairmanship and what it is?

5. heh - true - the 'mill' is as tough as it comes for any Democrat, especially if you're
not a member of the coverup wing of the Democratic party, who seem to have an easier time of it with the media in recent years.

8. He's on the Senate Judiciary Committee
Now that the Democrats rule, he's in a really good spot.

This ain't the last we've heard from Russ. :)

He really is
The Supreme Court is a big issue to minorites, so I am glad he has a say being on the Judicary committee. :)

10. I agree with you absolutely
that no one should be taking this as an opportunity to jump in and try to sway Feingold supporters to their candidate. It's just a basic issue of respect. I hope people would show the same respect to me, should my candidate decide not to run.

I'm quite disappointed myself that he's not running, as he is just about the most articulate voice that we have for progressive values, and he would have added a tremendous amount to the primary discussion. I know I'm not feeling the kind of pain that some of his most serious supporters are.

11. That's how I feel - people should put themselves in our DU compatriots' place
and think about the ache it would cause in their own hearts.

12. Feingold will be a powerful and effective Senator for many years.
I am proud that he is one of my U.S. Senators. Wisconsin will easily reelect him every time he runs. He is like our late Senator Proxmire who gets support from everybody across the board because he is honest and has the courage of his convictions, not pandering to anyone, even those of us who are Liberals.
