5. "Dissent is not allowed"

If this person is worried about dissent not being allowed, he should go to Free Republic. I've been banned from there in less than a minute, even when I was perfectly polite, but for not being from the standard foaming at the mouth conservative perspective on display there. They even have a term there "zot" which is associated with that, they don't ban people here so much that they invent a term for it.

On the other hand, one thing I have to give credit to FR for - that site is about conservatism and you can criticize the Republicans there, and even talk about voting for the Constitution Party. This is a Democratic Party line site, and I've seen people banned or threads locked for supporting Nader or that type of thing. I think this is a strength of FR and a weakness of DU, and it is one of the few good things about FR. Of course, whenever I point this out here people accuse me of being a Republican or conservative, despite that I am probably way to the left of most of the people here. I am just tired of this general attitude, it drives me off from even really considering voting Democratic. In 2000 I voted for Hillary Clinton, six years later I voted for the Green Hawkins since he is clearly against the Iraq war. In fact, I voted all Green, then when there were no Greens, Working Families Party. For judges it was only Democratic and Republican so I voted Democratic on that one and only that one.

After damn near an entire year of making carefully-worded responses, I dared to post (in response to a REALLY homophobic comment) that some people did not consider homosexuality to be deviant behavior (in exactly that way...passive, simple statement of fact).


3 minutes later...banned.
