Did Bill Maher "out" any gay Repubs. friday?
He said on LKL that he would do so. But I watched and didn't see him doing that. Did I miss it or was he somehow pressured not to do it?

1. I watched and he didn't...
I was expecting that he was going to as well after the Larry King interview, but it didn't happen... I wonder why. I am somewhat glad though, because I don't believe in outing anyone.

3. I'm sure the lawyers stepped in and told him it was a bad idea
FYI: HBO and CNN are both owned by the same company.

I'm sure Time Warner doesn't want any legal problems.

5. Sounds about right...
But didn't he say he wouldn't have been the first to out these people and if he were he could be sued? I could've sworn I heard him say that.

4. I wonder why he didn't do it, but
I DO believe in outing hypocrites-not gay people.

7. "outing" today and outing even just 10 years ago are two
entirely different things.

I think the context here is outing someone who is publicly decrying gays while screwing around, usually with wife and kids.

The beautiful irony is that while they themselves work tirelessly make being "gay" the worst possible slander, they should be the first to benefit from their own handiwork.

18. nope - I guess that means I'm not "sui generis"
according to the original meaning.

but neither is that one! }(

Alas, my cry for individuality in this cold cruel world has been absorbed and assimilated.

:hi:

2. the clip from CNN was editted out
I think that he was pressured not to. At the very least, he put Chuck Shumer's feet to the fire.

6. I know...
I recorded LKL that night and had the unedited version. It's a shame that such censorship is allowed.

9. Kinda,
at the end of his interview with Rep. Jeff Flake (R-AZ)he said something like "you're gay" and Flake nodded yes (to be fair, I don't think Flake meant to nod yes to that) but Bill, immediately said "no you're not, I lied" or something to that affect...

13. Nah. That was a joke...
Maher followed it by saying he's only kidding and Flake is very, very straight.

10. I didn't recall him saying he would out them on his show. I think he
said everyone knows there are many closeted gays in the GOP, then he mentioned Melhman (because everyone knows that). I didn't catch the part about his plans for mentioning it on his show. Don't know.

14. He DID say it to Larry King...
And King seemed surprised and he answered by saying he wouldn't be the first...

20. Scarborough talked about it last night...
Saying Maher told LK he'd out them on his show friday. Scarborough even played the now-deleted clip of Maher saying Mehlman is gay! He also wondered why Maher would chicken out and not name names.

16. didn't out anyone, I suppose it didn't get past
vetting. He did however have one of the best clips "Farwell douchebags" like they have on the Oscars with the dearly departed. The best.

17. I used to be glad to be gay
But it's turning out that half the damn "family" consists of Rethug politicos, right wing operatives, and Christian Taliban types. This isn't easy for a nice liberal gay boy like me to handle. Starting to give us all a bad name :hide:

19. I wouldn't look at it that way...
You don't have to think of THEM as part of your "family" just because they were born gay just as much as I don't have to think of left-handed females as all part of MY family. They don't give gay people a bad name. They give gay HYPOCRITES a bad name. :hi:

21. Well thank you
I know that they aren't really part of my "tribe" but they are an embarassment all the same.
Plus their hypocrisy pisses me off. They do so much damage to the rest of us. Anyway,
thanks for the encouragement:toast:
