New York: Minarik to step down as state GOP head
More GOP exodus...

Minarik to step down as state GOP head
State and Monroe County GOP Chairman Stephen Minarik said today that he will resign as state chairman effective Nov. 30.

Minarik, in an interview with the Democrat and Chronicle, said he has discussed the matter with Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno, R-Brunswick, Rensselaer County, and the party will likely hold a meeting on Nov. 30 to elect a successor.
"It was never going to be a long-term assignment for me," Minarik said. "I made a commitment to the governor and the governor has decided to move on."

Minarik was tapped as state chairman in November 2004 by outgoing Republican Gov. George Pataki. Minarik's term expires next September.

He will stay on as county chairman, a post he has held since 1992.
