My Apologies regarding my John Edwards Comments |
|
After further examination, I realize that it is possible that based on the science at the time, his CP cases appear legitimate. It is something I would like to explore further because it will definitely be something the opposition will examine much closer if he becomes the Dem. nominee.
That being said, I should have done more thorough research before making accusations about his trial work. I have always thought Edwards to be a good person and he really is doing some amazing things with his life today. I do have my personal biases about who I think would make the strongest candidates in '08 but I should not use those biases to trash other viable candidates. I thank those that showed me links that supported Edwards.
As a health care researcher I can tell you that we definitely have a three prong problem in the U.S. Lawyers are a part of that equation and doctors must practice much differently today because the fear of lawsuits. Just as there are negligent doctors, there are lawyers that are greedy and dishonest. I don't believe Edwards is one of them.

time to time. There are only a few here on DU that have **never** made mistakes or mispoken... Perhaps they will weigh in tonight for the public flogging. :7

2. My mistake was that I abandoned my gut feelings about Edwards |
|
and listened to someone that I thought knew something I didn't. Also, the information out there regarding the cases is very biased one way or the other. It is difficult to find the truth. I'm not sure I completely know yet.

10. Not to get all philosophical on you but |
|
can we ever know the truth about any of this? Personally, I think DU feeds my thirst for getting the inside scoop, the rest of the story, the "truth". But it all really just boils down to who are you going to believe and how many believe it already and who can make the better argument for or against. FActs can be black and white while the gray area surrounding them can make the story take a completely different slant if you consider it all as a piece.
I don't think there are definitive answers to anything. Trust your gut and stay humble. Just like your OP states you are doing. You are to be commended for having the courage to say - wait, maybe I'm wrong.

5. Edwards wasn't a bad lawyer - just a bad VP candidate. |

A male Geraldine Ferraro. Might have a future as an ambassador to Canada or Portugal if he plays his cards right.

6. I actually thought he was a good VP candidate. |
|
I thought the team was good. Although, I was surprised that he couldn't carry his home state.

Senator Kerry's campaign team wrote off the entire south, and since JRE was the VP, he did what he was told to do and had no control. You still have to campaign even in your homestate. Gore is proof of that; he took Tenn for granted or hoped FL would pull it out. But in this case, Edwards knew you had to take the Dean approach: campaign everywhere.
