Chris Matthews Show, November 12: |
|
The show had some inside information from Cynthia Tucker and Andrea Mitchell From the transcript Weekend of November 12, 2006:
... Welcome back. Cynthia, tell me something I don't know.
Ms. TUCKER: Democrats aren't as in control in the Senate as they think if they're depending on Joe Lieberman. He's going to be the new Zel Miller of Senate Democrats. He is angry because so many big-time Democrats turned their backs on him, and some Republicans campaigned for him. So the Democrats won't be able to depend on him for...
MATTHEWS: Will he cross the aisle?
Ms. TUCKER: Probably not. He'll just be a thorn in their side.
MATTHEWS: OK, we're going to pass over Dan for a second. He has something special to say. Andrea:
MITCHELL: There is a ferocious fight going on already in the House side. Speaker Pelosi, Speaker-designate Pelosi, is not going to yield on Jane Harman on the Intelligence Committee, and a little-known decision known by Rahm Emanuel not to challenge an African-American congressman for the whip post means that the Congressional black leadership will feel that they already have been mollified. This will take Alcee Hastings, an African-American, off the waiting list for Intelligence...
MATTHEWS: OK. Why...(unintelligible).
MITCHELL: ...and they're going to go to an Hispanic for Intelligence.
MATTHEWS: Yeah. Well, Why is Pelosi so tough on Harman?
MITCHELL: Feels she hasn't been tough enough on the Bush administration on intelligence issues, that she was too moderate, too centrist, even though she is the most credible Democrat on all of these issues and has a national following. And it is a really nasty fight among two powerful congresswomen.
MATTHEWS: Howard:
Mr. FINEMAN: All those unified Democrats. The Republicans need to worry about the Senate next time around already because I think the talk on the Hill is, there may be as many as four Republican senior senators who are going to decide not to run in 2008: Warner, Domenici, Dole, and maybe even Stevens. Some of them insist they are going to run, but there's a good chance that at least two or three of them won't run in 2008. ...
