6. He's a conservative cartoonist. Why read his material?
I read his cartoons because they give the neocon perspective. That's rare in political cartoons.

Now, if you want to get all pissy about a cartoonist, Tinsley and his Mallard Fillmore are good targets. Tinsley goes beyond political cartooning -- he envisions himself as something of a social commentator. Unfortunately, Bruce Tinsley is as thick as a brick and has very little experience and creativity to draw upon. A classic one trick pony.

I don't like Ramirez's message, but it is consistent with the neocon point of view.

7. Bruce Tinsley is one of the few cartoonists....
...whose cartoons give off the impression that their creator would probably be pretty unpleasant to know in real life. There's no light-heartedness, charm, character-development or even much humor in "Mallard Fillmore," only a constant parade of enemies--straw men begging to to be taken down by a know-it-all. He appears to have a particular animosity for teachers--not left-wing professors, but ordinary grade-school teachers who deserve waaaay more respect than he gives them.

The best part was when Jon Stewart's book "America" did a very convincing parody of Tinsley's work, where Mallard says in the last panel after a typical conservative rant "Oops! I forgot to tell a joke!" So Tinsley did a whole week on Jon Stewart's horrible attempt to "fool the nation" into thinking that strip was his, when any boob could see it was satire--it was in a DAILY SHOW book, for cryin' out loud! The ironic part is that the one satirical version of "Mallard Filmore" was funnier and more creative than anything Tinsley ever wrote. What a palooka.

8. Great analysis of Tinsley.
"The best part was when Jon Stewart's book "America" did a very convincing parody of Tinsley's work, where Mallard says in the last panel after a typical conservative rant 'Oops! I forgot to tell a joke!'" LOL! So true.

Your mention of Tinsley's despise of teachers and other common authority figures is dead on. His problem is not that these people have a political compass (as everyone tends to), but that they have expertise and control. Tinsley seems to be locked into some adolescent rebellion against people who might have opinions inconvenient to his.

Here's a little joy and patriotism from the man-of-tolerance himself:
