HOUSE RACE STILL NOT DECIDED-(NC-08)- HELP STILL NEEDED! Let's get one more seat!
Edited on Mon Nov-13-06 10:14 PM by ncrainbowgrrl
Dear NC Democrat:

What a year! As we all take a step back and assess this exciting election season, I want to remind you that we have one outstanding congressional race in North Carolina.

Last week, Democrats captured the majority in the U.S. House delegation from North Carolina (7 Democrats-6 Republican) and we have a chance to make it 8-5 Democratic. In the 8th Congressional District, Larry Kissell ran an amazing race and might have defeated incumbent Republican Rep. Robin Hayes. Right now, Kissell is behind by about 460 votes, but 1,500 provisional ballots remain uncounted. As provisional ballots tend to favor Democrats, we are very optimistic about our chances in the 8th District.

Here at the State Party, we spent the maximum we were legally allowed to spend (over $100,000) expressly advocating for Larry Kissell. The national Democratic Party has sent in some of the best election lawyers in the country and the NCDP is working closely with the Kissell campaign to ensure that every vote is counted.

It’s not over and Larry Kissell needs your help! All of this is very expensive, but it’s worth it.

Robin Hayes is one of the richest members of Congress and is already claiming he won. In a democracy, someone shouldn’t declare himself the winner, especially with more than three times the margin separating the candidates still outstanding. Just three votes per precinct are needed to defeat flip-floppin’ Robin Hayes once and for all.

Larry needs your help!

Last Tuesday, the politics of hope defeated the politics of fear. In Congress, Larry Kissell will be the embodiment of hope and all that is right about democracy. But we can’t get him there without your help!

With Best Wishes,

Jerry Meek
Chair

10. Looks like Rodriguez has a good chance of winning but needs support.
Ciro Rodriguez is endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters,
he is scored 55% on environmental issues, pretty good.

Bonilla however is rated 0% by the LCV, indicating anti-environment votes. (Dec 2003). That's 0%, it doesn't get any worse than that.

From

Texas
23

Henry Bonilla (R) > 60,147 48.6

Ciro D. Rodriguez (D) > 24,593 19.9
Albert Uresti (D) 14,529 11.7
Lukin Gilliland (D) 13,725 11.1
August G. “Augie” Beltran (D) 2,650 2.1
Rick Bolanos (D) 2,563 2.1
Adrian DeLeon (D) 2,198 1.8

Craig T. Stephens (I) 3,344 2.7

All together the Democrats got 48.7% of the vote,
slightly greater than what Bonilla got.

Election of 2006

On November 7 Bonilla faced six Democrats, including Ciro Rodriguez and Vietnam War veteran Rick Bolanos in the all-candidate primary required by the court decision on redistricting (see above). The ballot also included one independent. Bolanos won the Democratic primary earlier in the year, but Rodriguez, who was not in that primary, decided to run after the revised district boundaries added his home base in the Democratic-leaning, heavily Hispanic areas in southern Bexar County, which includes San Antonio.<5>

In the election's aftermath, Henry Bonilla had 48.1% of the vote and Ciro Rodriguez 20.3%, thus forcing a December runoff. It remains the only unresolved outcome among the 32-member Texas congressional delegation.

This is very important and deserves its own thread.
I for one will donate and support Ciro Rodriguez.

14. We are also still counting in OH-15!!
Mary Jo Kilroy is a fantastic progressive looking to unseat incumbent Deborah Pryce. Last i heard Pryce was leading by ~3000 votes, but there are still something like 27,000 votes that need to be counted! About 9,000 of these are provisional votes, and the remainder are absentees. Many of the provisional votes should ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY have been regular ballot votes... many of them are in student districts where poll workers told people to vote provisionally if the address on their driver's license didn't match their voter registration address. A blatant violation of the Ohio Revised Code, 8505.18(A)(1).

We need to get these votes counted! This was blatant disenfranchisement of young voters, since students are disproportionally likely to have mismatched addresses (since many of their licenses still have their parents' address). And they are likely to be progressive voters! So we can't give up yet... count every vote!... GO MARY JO!!!

16. There is some info in the Ohio forum...
But that's all i've seen so far. I'm pretty new to posting here though, so maybe i'm not looking in the right places? I guess i don't have enough posts yet to start my own thread, so i'm just trying to mention it in relevant threads like this one, so people hear about it!
