Conservative site pulls account 'linked to anthrax suspect' (DU mentioned)
Edited on Tue Nov-14-06 01:33 AM by Hepburn
Anthrax hoaxer may be Free Republic poster

The man arrested on Saturday for sending more than a dozen envelopes containing "fake anthrax" to anti-war celebrities, journalists, and politicians may have ties to the conservative supersite Free Republic, RAW STORY has found.

Chad Castagana, a 39 year old Californian named as the FBI's prime suspect in the case, is due in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles today, where procecutors are expected to file criminal complaint against him for sending threatening letters through the U.S. mail. Castagana has an extensive online history, often writing about science fiction and conservative politics, and many bloggers are convinced that he is also a contributor at the conservative activist Free Republic website under the name Marc Costanzo, whose online profile, once available here was suspended after this story first ran this morning.

Earlier today, users at the liberal websites Democratic Underground and Daily Kos brought to light the similarities between Castagana's Internet footprint and Costanzo's writings at Free Republic, and RAW STORY has found a series of eyebrow-raising connections between the two men.

In one Free Republic post, Costanzo contends that he hails from the town of Woodlands Hills; the same city where Castagana was arrested.

3. FYI, Woodland Hills isn't a "town", lol. It's a section of the City of Los Angeles,
out in the suburban San Fernando Valley.

It's my neighborhood. (don't know Chad, BTW)

Will the government be investigating the ste, checking on its members, etc to find out if it's part of a world wide terrorist organization?

Should they change the site name to Al Quaeda? They seem to be breeding terrorists over there at an alarming rate.

17. No, science fiction is more realistic
I'd take Robert Heinlein's word for things over Paul Wolfowitz any day

19. How many folks actually got the message of 'Starship Trooper'?
Read the book or even take a close look at the (somewhat marred) Movie version. Heinlen was talking about a milotocratic society: one where you could only vote if you had served and had utter control of the media. One that used aggression and needless slaughter in lieu of diplomacy.

26. Excuse me?
Sci-fi, like other genres, can be liberal, conservative, both, or neither, depending on one's point of view. Star Trek has always been pretty liberal, with its emphasis on tolerance, non-interference, and "Infinite diversity in infinite combinations." Babylon 5 tended to be more conservative in its outlook, even though the writer is a flaming liberal. Stargate is VERY conservative and rah-rah military. Farscape and Firefly were just the opposite - the military were the "bad guys". The Star Wars sagas are pretty much all over the map, but I would count them as liberal (little guys standing up against the establishment). Battlestar Galactica (new version) is also all over the map.

And that's just the major TV and movie fandoms. Don't even get me started on the wide variety of literary works out there.

25. They Say You Are Hot- And They Can't Spell
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 11:53 PM by Southpawkicker
I now have to take a shower after visiting that site.

barf

:puke:

We know that you are good at what you do and a bunch of Freepukes don't know what they are saying (other than saying you are hot looking. Of course, they have "flaming chopsticks" in their ears so they don't have to listen to you? What's that about, flaming chopsticks? Are they really into pain or what?)

These are guys living in their parents basement at age 35 or 40 in my estimation LaLa, they have such broad horizons they think that their parents will live forever and they won't have to move out of their basement I guess.

on edit: I forgot what I was going to edit, that's good eh?

13. I have a question. Why isn't this being reported by the corporate media?
Edited on Tue Nov-14-06 07:21 AM by nicknameless
A google search turned up NOTHING in newspapers about this guy's arrest.

On edit: Correction -- Some papers reporting, but stories not found with google.

22. Okay, here's what I don't get.
Going by my imperfect understanding of the One True Thing to ever come out of the Bush Administration,* most conservatives are contemptible nutjobs who fear one thing above all others: change, and champion another truly anti-American value above all others: inequality.

I can understand why our Freeper friend would fear and maybe even attempt to attack those who would threaten his values, particularly his most sacred value of having his special group of people rule over all others not like him, whatever that hoo-hah called the Constitution says.

But what this guy did.... It's guaranteed to damage his own freedoms, whether he gets caught or whether society reacts to what he has done. Deep down what this guy wants is a return to the dark ages when "his" people could string up other people on a whim and treat still more people like dirt. But what he's getting is a restriction of his own freedom, no matter what else happens.

He's a loser living in his mommy's basement, not a loser pretending to work in his daddy's Oval Office. At some level he must know nobody's going to cut him a break. So how does this person justify what he has done? Where is the benefit for the most important person in the Universe, himself? What made him think he could get away with it?

That's what I don't get.

27. I wonder if the UnaFreeper was the "Kill * " troll?
Remember a couple of weeks ago, when the Secret Service contacted the mods about someone who had made a threat to the pResident? I seem to recall that the person in question was not one of the "usual DU suspects", but a troll. I wonder if it was the UnaFreeper, making us look bad?
