Wash. GOP Rep. Reichert Re-Elected (Burner concedes)

Wash. GOP Rep. Reichert Re-Elected

OLYMPIA, Wash. Nov 14, 2006 (AP)— Republican Rep. Dave Reichert survived a strong challenge from Democratic newcomer Darcy Burner, winning a second term Monday amid a Democratic wave that swept his party out of power in the House.

Reichert said Burner called to congratulate him on a second term, and the two shared their frustrations about the slow pace of Washington's largely vote-by-mail elections.

"Finally, something we agree on," Reichert told The Associated Press in a phone interview from Washington, D.C.

Burner did not publicly concede Monday night, but called a news conference Tuesday in Bellevue.

:puke:

I found the comments from both candidates about voting by mail interesting . . . .

1. Not surprising

It shouldn't have been close. Burner was a relative unknown and Reichert was a hero sheriff who caught the Green River killer. Also that district represents the high rent area.

I suppose ole Dave is gonna climb in seniority in the new house of Representatives. A lot of senior members are no longer there. ;-) He's pretty moderate compared to Allen and Santorum. He should have won in a landslide.

Edited to congratulate myself on my 500th post.

3. yes, I'm a bit surprised, myself.
Reichert's such an arrogant ass, too, grr. sure hope he does show his much balleyhooed moderate side to woo his district.

4. It's a blue state, not a deep blue state

That particular district voted for John Kerry last time around, but I don't think they have ever sent a democrat to congress. It's the seat vacated by Jennifer Dunn two years ago that she had held for many years. That district always voted overwhelming for Ms. Dunn. This is a real come down for the republican party.

Actually, Seattle and surrounding areas are pretty blue, but the rest of the state is at least pink.

I live about an hour north of Seattle and I am treated to Bush/Cheney stickers often, not as many as two years ago, but the true believers are standing by their man.

5. yeah, I recalled that it was dunn's old seat

but we picked up a number of seats that had been in rethug
hands for a long time. that's what wave elections are all
about. I was just disappointed that they dodged the bullet
on this one.

6. I know it was disappointing, but Ole Dave's up for re-election in two years

This is a wealthy district and Dave is quite a hero around here. People in that district don't like Chimp(they voted for Kerry), but they seem to like republicans to represent their district.

Reichert seems to be a corporatist, not a down home republican. This district is the home of Microsoft and other big corporations. It's where Chimp comes to raise money.

Don't let this one get you down. They don't like Chimp and his policies, but they want a corporatist to represent them. Who knows, once the Democrats finish their investigations, maybe Reichert will fall too.

The big shots aren't going to like their boy(reichert)being in the minority.
