We should not waste one single breath or keystroke to taking down Rudy |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-14-06 11:01 AM by vi5
Gulliani is NOT, never, ever in a million years going to be the republican nominee for president. It is flat out never going to happen. The religious right may overlook their issues with and disdain of McCain if they can come to a compromise and end up with an (R) in the white house again (especially after the trouncing they just took in the house and senate). But they will never, EVER under any circumstances tolerate gay friendly, pro choice, thrice married, openly philandering Rudy.
So all of our teeth gnashing over him and pre-emptive strikes against his candidacy will take away from real issues and real challenges that may be coming from the repubs over the next 2 years until the presidential election.
In fact if anything a Rudy entrance into the race totally throws the republicans into chaos with having to defend themselves and their extreme wing in the face of someone who is respected and liked by casual political observers. We won't need to do any of the work with Rudy. The right will do it for us.
The longer Rudy stays in the race the more the republicans have to defend their core beliefs and constituencies. With Rudy in the race a woman's right to choose will have to be discussed, and the rights of gay people will have to be discussed, and gun control will need to be discussed. Issues with which more people agree with Rudy's stances on than agree with the republican base on.
So let them have at it and save us the time and effort.

1. he'll find jaysus soon enough & media will cover for it, like for W |
|
Tweety started campaigning for him long before ge announced. W wasn't exactly the ideal RW candidate with his drugging & drinking past. But they transformed him, and they can Rudy if they really want to.

6. But Bush's "transformation" happened 20 years ago |
|
This Giuliani-Jesus-Mission is still in the future, so I don't think that can save him.

And obviously you do too since you wasted a whole lot more than one keystroke on typing your post about Rudy. We should did up all the dirt we can and inform every single person in the United States just how terrible of a choice Rudy would be for our country.

The bible thumpers will never go for him. The NRA members will never go for him. He is not going to make it in the primaries.
(on a side note- I didn't think Bush would either so take my opinion with a grain of salt)

5. All of those shortcomings make it unlikely |
|
that he will be the nominee. Ironically, though-it makes him my favorite Republican. Wouldn't vote for him in a million years, but he doesn't make me gag like the current crop of neo-cons.

It's not only the fundies who will hate Rudy. The gun lobby hates him (seeing NYC gun laws this does not surprise me) as do the Libertarians (and same for McCain for the most part). That's three core Republican constituencies he'll miss at the very least getting anything but halfhearted support from. Too big an obstacle to overcome. Let them tear their own to pieces. It's about time they self-destructed in internal conflict like we did the last ten years or so. Why get the splashes of blood on our hands too. In fact heck let's SUPPORT a Giuliani run to hasten the day.

7. Let him march to the front of the line! |

This will bring the blistering boil of 911 to a head. We can look at the tapes and ask the questions about three buildings falling on his turf. It will not be pretty. And just think, he had the unusual luck to be in London for the bombings? What is that all about. Peace on earth, Kim

otherwise known as evidence -- for melting down after the attacks? . . . or at least did nothing to prevent it? . . .

11. If he does make it through their primaries, it will signal that the U.S. is |
|
moving away from the so called "Christian or God vote" based on holier-than-thou hate and bigotry. It is very doubtful that R's will nominate him. It could happen if he goes full time into being "saved" and runs around with Falwell, Robertson, Moore (the 10 commandments guy) and Dobson types. Then in the election he would be clobbered.

13. Get out your popcorn. Republican primaries |
|
will be a bloodbath.
The fundies will hate the Drag Queen.
The party activists hate McCain.
Everyone hates the choice of Mel Martinez as RNC head.
Good times.
