Huckabee (Gov. R-Arkansas) Defends 'Wedding' Gift Registry
http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/nat-gen/2006/nov/14/111408616.html

Gov. Mike Huckabee on Tuesday angrily defended a gift registry that was set up to help furnish his new home, and said the registry was put together by his wife's friends for a housewarming party.

"My wife has friends; she has lifelong friends. They wanted to do something for her," the Arkansas Republican told reporters after speaking at an event in downtown Little Rock. "It has nothing to do with who she is, other than she's their friend."

Huckabee has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination and has made trips to several important primary states.

He said he did not know the friends who set up the gift registry, nor did he know the names of the friends who hosted a housewarming party for which the registry was intended.

1. I tried searching on Dillards registry, it's been taken down...
I was curious as to what kind of "gifts" that a couple who has been married for over 30 years were "not soliciting" for. I have to say, I've been married for a long time and I have some lifelong friends as well, and none of them are begging to give me things.

What a hypocritical crock of shit these people are.

2. Maybe I don't get it -- I've known plenty of people who set up registries
for other-than-wedding purposes.

Perhaps they should have called it a "wish list" -- Amazon lets you do this, and www.kaboodle.com is fun, too. Suffer through one too many crap Christmas presents, and "registering" suddenly seems like a good idea.

Perhaps, as a politician, there might be an appearance of impropriety, but this seems to be much ado about nothing.

4. LOL! OMG! when I saw the word "wedding" in quotes, my first thought was
it was a gay wedding! I am so conditioned because that's the only instance where marriage or wedding is ever in quotes. :)
