Is Cheney running in 2008?
What is Cheney up to since Election Day?

Previously Cheney was rarely seen. He was in the bunker so often it became a joke. Since Election Day Cheney has been glued to *. He has appeared by his side in the Rose Garden, the meetings with Pelosi, Reid, and the Iraq Study Group. Today he was shown at the President's side when he made remarks to the press about their meeting with auto executives.

Has Cheney been assigned to watch *'s every move OR is Cheney positioning himself to be the only one qualified to run in 2008 just as he was the only one qualified to run as VP in 2000?

President Bush, right, and Vice President Dick Cheney, second from right, meet with automotive executives in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006.

This picture released by the White House shows US President George W. Bush (2nd R) joined by National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley (R), Vice President Dick Cheney (2nd L) and Chief of Staff Josh Bolten (L) during a meeting with the Iraq Study Group, headed by former Secretary of State James Baker (L, facing Bush) and former Democratic lawmaker Lee Hamilton (R, facing Hadley) at the White House.

Former Secretary of State James Baker, co-chairman of the Iraq Study Group, talks with Vice President Dick Cheney as he leaves the White House after meeting with President Bush in Washington, Monday, Nov. 13, 2006.

President Bush, second from right, looks on as Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., left, shakes hands with Vice President Dick Cheney, right after their meeting in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, Friday, Nov. 10, 2006.

U.S. President George W. Bush meets with House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi in the Oval Office after their lunch together at the White House in Washington November 9, 2006. At right is Vice President Dick Cheney.

U.S. President George W. Bush (C) shares breakfast with the Bicameral Republican Leadership at the White House November 9, 2006. Attending breakfast with Bush are (clockwise from his right) Sen. Bill Frist, (R-TN), Sen. Mitch McConnell, (R-KY), Vice President Dick Cheney, Rep. Roy Blunt (R-MO), Rep. John Boehner (R-OH), and Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert of Illinois.

President Bush, second from the left, speaks in the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington, Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, following a meeting with his Cabinet. From left are, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the president, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Alphonso Jackson, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, Vice President Dick Cheney, and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

19. So true.
Never happen, but, in some fantastic twist of fate if Cheney WAS the GOP nominee, the Democrats would be able to elect ANYBODY. Even Hillary.

4. Are you for real?
Cheney has just about the lowest approval ratings of any politician in the United States. Why would you even assume he has a chance? Think about it, nobody wants Cheney to run, and nobody would vote for him anyhow. It's really quite absurd.

11. Well, I don't trust Cheney. He is delusional, delusions of grandeur.
For some reason he now has his nose in everything Bush is doing. What would he care if he didn't have a plan in the back of his warped mind?

A President Cheney would rank higher in the history books than VP Cheney. Lynne would love to be a First Lady.

It may sound absurd but it was just as absurd in 2000 when he headed the selection committee and selected himself.

older, wiser men are running the Bush administration.

But I like your idea better! I hope Cheney DOES run.

7. Oh, Pretty Please?
The only person I've ever met who LIKED Cheney was someone who knew him personally.

While we're at it, let's elect Darth Vader as President of the Republic. Posthumously.

5 Deferments
His secret energy meetings.
His Abramoff scandal.
His Plame scandal.
His fucking sleeping all the time int he oval office during meetings.

Just think of all the cool campaign ads against him we are going to miss. They could run one of him in the oval office snoring.

12. I hope Cheney runs in '08
Also, I think Georgie is close to having a major meltdown and that is why Cheney is sticking so close to him. Enabler -in- chief Cheney carries paper bags for the kid's panic attacks, makes sure he doesn't drink too much, reminds him to breathe before speaking. and coaches him in what to say. Whenever the kid is under scruitiny or pressure, he makes sure Cheney is in tow and is apparently reassured by the mere presence of his dog, the Dark Prince.

and his popularity is even less now. He's stained and tainted and he knows it. And given his health, he won't deal with that pressure. Stick a fork in him, he's well done.

24. I think it's about babysitting, not running for pres.
He's one of the most hated men in the country, and he personally owns all of the disasters of the Bush admin. I just don't see any way he would have a chance. I think he prefers being a puppet-master to a front man anyway.

26. Just as he was the only one qualified to run as VP in 2000?
The only reason he was qualified was because part of his resume included babysitting.

Cheney needs to be out in public more so that his admiring public can annoy him and get him agitated. The annoyed and agitated he gets the more likely it will reduce his ability to withstand illnesses.

But it is very odd, as OP points out, that he's suddenly popping up all over the place.

33. I guess that's how you get 16 years as President.
...in spite of the 22nd Amendment. Elect a moron and run the country from the Veep's chair for eight years, then run yourself. It's still a long shot, because people absolutely HATE Dick Cheney with the intensity of a thousand suns. Put him up against, oh, John Edwards, and the choice becomes clear as crystal.
