As we watch the Republic Party eat its own, who'll be needing the toothpick? |
|
They like to portray the Democratic Party as fractuous and factious. They would be wrong.
There's a whole boatload of old time Republics, many in the Northeast, who no longer even recognize the party as they one they continue to be members of, if only out of habit.
Then there's the pragmatist wing. The paleocons. There's no love lost between them and the religious nutter wing of the party. No one likes a scolding moralizer unless he's your moralizer. And the party scolds are not theirs.
Then there's the 'Archie Bunker' wing, many of whom have already taken their leave, thankyewverymuch. Pat Buchanan is their current spokemodel.
The neocons have so sompletely discredited themselves that they're already little more than salsa on the Republic taco that will be some group/faction's lunch.
They salami is already headed through the slicer.
My question tonight .... who will win control of the party?

1. Why, the shills for Big Corporate Bux, of course! |
|
What makes you think they haven't been in control all along, are still in control, and are watching all the "factions" duke it out like puppies in a basket.
Whichever puppies emerge from the basket with most of their limbs intact will get The Nod.
helpfully, Bright

2. Talked to a Rep friend of mine, today |
|
We used to work together and have known each other about 25 years. She's a Missouri Lutheran married to a pastor but who doesn't believe the world is only 6000 yrs old. A mixed bag sort of woman.
Anyhow, I asked her who was going to be their candidate in '08 and she just couldn't say. She said if Romney got elected, the Mormon Church would be running the country. She was definitely surprised that Rudy was pro choice and pro gay rights. And she thought McCain was *not a hawk. When I mentioned that McC wanted to send more troops to Iraq she laughed - like a 'where the hell was he going to get them' kind of a thing.
I don't think they know what the hell to do. But she did say that a governor made more sense than someone form Congress. I think she secretly wishes our Governor Bill "I knocked up the nanny" Owens would run. Even if he did knock up the nanny.
Let's face it, they don't seem to have a deep bench, Husb.

Finally someone that wants to attack the Republicans.
But so far, I have seen nothing but fights from the Dems on here, and other places.
Maybe it is just a leadership thing, but I doubt it.
We have people that worship the ground Ned Lamont walks on. They are probably still considering suicide.
But John Kerry, Al Gore, great Senators, one great vice-President, Democrat threw them out like bad milk. Yeah, they made mistakes. But compared to Bush, c'mon.
So be ready for the whining Dem faction to bolt to vote for Adam Sandler or whatever third party, and welcome in President Gulliani.
Back to your point. Oh yeah, I called many Republicans during the campaign and they were sick as hell of the Republicans. Democrats can win them over if they actually do something besides argue.
We have destroyed a Country. It is probably genocide what is going on there. Democrats have to prove they can solve this. A huge task, but DU's 24 hour whinefest about Lieberman does nothing.
