Who will be the GOP presidential candidate?
I think it will come down between Condoleezza Rice or John McCain. Giuliani is likable but is too socially liberal for the Repubs.

2. Rice isn't running and McCain has too many issues...

Besides.. have you ever watched McCain debate? He can't debate his way out of a wet paper bag! I think Cheney and Boner will run in the "Republic" Party for a Dick/Boner ticket.

You heard it here first.

4. Huckabee or Hagel
I don't know if McCain can overcome his stigma from the 2000 primaries.

8. Hagel Might be the Sleeper Candidate
Because he's clean, sane, and competent.

If not, I suspect Rudy Giuliani will win, even with his baggage. People vote with their hearts, and his Sep 11 credentials are powerful stuff.

9. Hagel doesn't seem to be DOING much...
I give it to Romney, just for the sheer effort he's putting into it. McCain is too old, plus the right don't like him and the middle's gonna think he's too close to Bush. By trying to appeal to everyone in his party, he's going to wind up alienating everybody.

Heck, I'D vote for Romney. Well, I wouldn't, really. But he's impressive.

(And Mormon, but that's proven to be a smaller problem that I would've thought among conservatives so far.)

10. I think they're hurting for strong qualified candidates with good name recognition.
McCain has the name but the conservative base hates him the way we hate Lieberman. Condoleeza Rice? Please. I have a better chance of being elected as a Republican president than she does. Giuliani has a shot IMO because of the name recognition but there's no way he's qualified to run the country because he happened to be Mayor of NYC on 9-11. That's like saying Ray Nagin should be elected President for being Mayor of NO on 8-29. It just isn't a qualification imo. Dick Cheney will only be 67 in 2008. There's a scary thought. Newt is talking about running. That's scary too. My guess is, however, they will look to soemone outside of the neo-con circles, an old school conservative of the Reagan/George H. Bush era. They would be smart if they did at least. Of course, neo-cons aren't known for being smart. Tom Tancredo seems like a popular fellow among the GOP and he has good name recognition. His position on immigration would probably cut into our coalition too. It would be interesting.

13. My guess: a McCain/Giuliani ticket
Age didn't stop Bob Dole from running in '96. I agree that many conservatives wouldn't like Giuliani, but I've a feeling the Repugs are going to go for name recognition, because it'll be the only thing they've got come '08.

(A few years ago, I was predicting Frist as the '08 front runner, but I think his chance are totally shot.)
