Steney Hoyer should go
I hope someone challenges him in the primary next time around and gets lots of funding from across the country to beat the guy. really, I do. That should be a targeted seat for anyone who cares about the party.

From TPM: http://www.tpmcafe.com/blog/electioncentral/2006/nov/15/steny_hoyer_answers_your_questions

TPM Reader KS:

Mr. Hoyer, please explain how the passage of the bankruptcy bill last year will actually benefit anyone OTHER THAN the credit card companies and the big banks in light of the rising expense, employment instability, and healthcare uncertainty of living in the United States, especially given that more than half of all bankruptcies filed by individuals in the past were in response to a single catastrophic event, such as losing a job or experiencing a health-related crisis.

HOYER:

I voted for it because I believe in personal responsibility. For people who incur debt but can't pay through no fault of their own because of a catastrophic event, obviously there needs to be protections.

GS:

But who does the bill help other than insurance companies and big banks?

HOYER:

The incursion of substantial debt and bankruptcy not through catastrophic events I think hurts consumers in that it makes debt more expensive. simply charge higher rates to cover their losses. We can bring prices down for consumers by insuring that those who incur debt pay that debt.

This is garbage. Unbelieveable answers from him. Debt is NOT cheaper. There were NO protections for catastrophic events. There were no consumer protections inserted into the bill, it's simply a bill for the banks and doesn't even stop predatory lending. His answer makes no sense.

Sad, really.

2. "There were NO protections for catastrophic events. "
You got that right - and considering that over 50% of all bankruptcies in the US are because of *MEDICAL BILLS*, it's that much more infuriating. Did he even read the bill? :grr:

10. HRC voted for that horrible bill after her husband, as President VETOED the bill TWICE
...after Congress passed it TWICE during his presidency??

Pres. Clinton said, that he's all for Bankruptcy Reform, but that the bills presented to him hurt the least fortunate without any protections for them.

They tried to serve up the bill a THIRD time, but he already warned them that if Congress did, he would vetoe it again if there weren't any safeguards for the poor, and working poor, and others included.

I guess they waited until Bush stole the office, but now to read that HRC voted for this one-sided bill...it makes me sick!

Another reason why NOT to fall for the "Clinton Magic" and vote for HRC for President---she's NO Bill!
