Financial Cost of Iraq War: Wrap your head around this:
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 11:51 AM by rateyes
And, Dubya wants MORE money for a BIGGER PUSH?

We are spending 264 million dollars a DAY to fight the war in Iraq. (There are only 300 million US CITIZENS)...excluding children, that means that each American adult is in this war for more than ONE DOLLAR every DAY. $365 a year. AND WE ARE BORROWING THAT MONEY!!!!!

264 million a day equates to 11 million every HOUR...which equates to approximately $183,000 dollars every MINUTE.

SO, I NEVER WANT TO HEAR AGAIN HOW WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO EDUCATE OUR CHILDREN, END THE PROBLEM OF THE HOMELESS, PROVIDE UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE, ETC. THAT'S JUST BULLSHIT.

Think about this:

For what we spend in Iraq, we could PAY CASH every MINUTE for a $183,000 home. Wouldn't take long to rebuild New Orleans, would it?

There are 44 million people without health insurance in this country. At 264 million dollars a DAY, we could give each uninsured person in this country $180.00 a MONTH to pay for health coverage.

How many schools could be built every hour with 11 MILLION DOLLARS? How much could you spend educating people on welfare, training them for decent-paying JOBS from which they would pay TAXES BACK?

The US National Debt is approaching 9 TRILLION dollars. Writing that out, the number looks like this: 9,000,000,000,000.00

Let's say that I gave you 1 thousand dollars a day, every day to spend. You MUST spend it ALL. Whatever you don't spend you have to give back. For a while, you could spend that kind of money. You could not keep it up, for you wouldn't have a place to STORE all the stuff. But, let's say you could...A THOUSAND DOLLARS A DAY, EVERY DAY. How long would it take you to spend ONE TRILLION DOLLARS?

HERE'S THE ANSWER: It would take you 24 MILLION, 657 THOUSAND, 534 YEARS!!! 24,657,534 YEARS!!!!! YEARS!!!! YEARS!!! OUR NATIONAL DEBT IS NINE TIMES 1 TRILLION.

That means that if we were to STOP GOING IN DEBT, and there was NO INTEREST ACCUMULATING ON THAT DEBT, and we starting PAYING IT OFF AT A CLIP OF A THOUSAND DOLLARS A DAY, IT WOULD TAKE US APPROXIMATELY 222 MILLION YEARS, to PAY OFF THE DEBT!!!!

------------------------------

Here is my point: The problem we have with solving problems in our country is not that we don't have the MONEY to solve it...If we can spend 11 FRICKING MILLION DOLLARS AN HOUR on a WAR THAT IS MAKING US LESS SAFE AND CREATING MORE TERRORISTS....we can spend enough to solve EVERY SOCIAL ILL we HAVE IN THIS COUNTRY.

This is NOT about MONEY.....it's about PRIORITIES!!!!!!!!!!!

One other SCARY THOUGHT for you: The NINE TRILLION DOLLARS WE OWE---THAT DEBT IS HELD BY FOREIGN GOVERNMENTS! CHINA....FRIGGING CHINA...IS FINANCING THE WAR IN IRAQ to the tune now of almost HALF A TRILLION DOLLARS: $500,000,000,000.00 AND CLIMBING!!

FEEL SAFER?

2. Our military budget equals all other countries' budgets *combined*.
It's mind-numbing and infuriating at the same time. :banghead:

3. Please check your math. $44 million/44 million does not equal one
million dollars...it equals $1. Neither does dividing $264 million by 300 million Americans equal
"each American adult is in this war for more than a MILLION DOLLARS A DAY, EVERY DAY!!!"

6. State Dept implies there is hardly any infrastructure!
And after all of what you mentioned we are spending, the state dept guy on c-span with Gen Abizaid more or less said there is not much infrastructure to speak of. Talk about war profiteering! They used to hang people for doing this in wartime.
