Abramoff in with Dems? Former Colleagues Say No
For those who were swallowing the anonymous sourced story from ABC.

http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/001997.php

"Jack has not met eight Democrats in Washington," one lobbyist told us.

He and others spoke on the condition of anonymity, because they did not want further publicity connecting them to Abramoff. Also, it should be noted that the lobbyists we spoke with continue to rely on access to lawmakers like Reid.

Ron Platt, a Democratic lobbyist who worked for a time with Abramoff on behalf of several clients and managed relations (such as they were) with Reid and other Democrats, said, "It's beyond my belief that he would have trusted a Democratic senator or house member."

"Jack Abramoff would never let any Democratic lobbyist, even on his team, manage one of his client matters," said Platt.

3. I suspect that anonymous source for ABC
had a name that started with R, ended with E, and had an OV in the middle.

I think I smell aspen roots

6. ABC let's see didn't they have something to do with a 911 miniseries?
Is the news division also connected with the entertainment division of propaganda? Unfortunately all you have to do is plant the seed of doubt.

7. I thought he was in jail
Does he have phone priveleges?

Does ABC think he's like a godfather who will be running his crime syndicate while he's in the big house?

12. He deserves it for torturing cello nerds as a kid.
see link: http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/001014.php

Jonathan: I was a cello player. Every high school has the nerdy kid who brings his cello to class. And that would have been me.

Ira Glass: Every high school also has bullies, and there was one guy who picked on Jonathan. Jonathan remembers him as a gladhander, somebody with lots of friends. And also...

Jonathan: A jock -- he hung out in the weight room. He squatted something over 500 pounds when he was in high school.

Ira Glass: And you actually know the number?

Jonathan: I believe it was 510 pounds. A number that I remember almost thirty years later.

Ira Glass: Because everybody knew the number.

Jonathan: Because everybody knew this.

I remember him, but I would be very surprised if he remembered me. He was the sort of person who would walk across the street to be unpleasant to somebody.

Or in my most notable instance, I was walking down the hall to history class, and he hip-checked me, I was carrying my cello and went sailing down the stairs with my cello.

You’d be surprised how times a cello in this case can bounce. It was a lot of money in repairs. He was laughing about it to his friends. I suspect he forgot about it five minutes later. I didn’t.

Ira Glass: And so who was he? Who was this guy?

Jonathan: That guy was Jack Abramoff.

10. He is
and the ABC story broke the day he went in. Which puts Abramoff conveniently unavailable for comment.

13. That's what Tom Delay's "K-Street Project" was all about. To keep Dems locked out.

14. Good point I have not thought of before.
If your going to be a crook keep your enemy close so he can also take the fall. Not smart locking out all of those Democrats.

16. It worked against them in Ohio, too
I think that's where the strategy was first tested.

When the corruption began to surface in public view, they tried hard to link Dems to it. But the GOP had done such a thorough job of separating Dems from any real governing of the state and had completely cut off their access to donors, they had nothing to work with.

17. Of course, that is why this story never made a bit of sense
Oh there might have been some contact from the clients behalf but gee if you were trying to influence legislation and regulation on gambling (including freezing out the competition) don't you think that the Senior Senator from NEVADA might be someone you want to talk to????

It is no longer even surprising how empty their arguments and stories are.
