Bush Twin (Barbara) Kicks Neighbors To The Curb
http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2006/11/bush-twin-kicks-neighbors-to-the-curb.php

Among the perks of being a daughter of the President of the United States: round-the-clock free parking for your security detail. Residents of the Greenwich Village block where Barbara Bush has been living recently noticed a pair of new signs on the curb reading "FLEO." The signs, whose acronym stands for "Federal Law Enforcement Officer," appear to be there to carve out a space for the Secret Service S.U.V. that idles on the street whenever Bush is around.

After taking several days to look into the matter, a spokesman for the New York City Department of Transportation was unable to say who, if anyone, had requested the signs—which, needless to say, have inspired quite a few grumbles from other well-heeled residents on the perpetually parking-strapped block.

It's an open secret in the neighborhood that Barbara, who reportedly works at the Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum, lives on West 9th Street in a building owned by the daughter of Bush's longtime friend, Chelsea Piers developer Roland Betts. Jenna, Barbara's twin, is also frequently seen entering and leaving the building, although, according to the Washington Post, she has been working in Panama as an intern for Unicef since the end of the summer. (The White House typically doesn't comment on the twins' whereabouts and did not respond to a message from Radar.)

While the Bushes must feel safe knowing their fun-loving daughters are in good hands, they might prefer not to dwell on the building's other tenant: dissolute alt-country rocker Ryan Adams.

1. UNICEF? Jenna works for UNICEF? She must be a massive dissappointment to the family.
Are they unwittingly raising a Democrat?

2. It's Probably Just A Front
To cover up her scouting locations for the new compound in Paraguay. Then again, Jenna was always the dumb one.

5. West 9th Street is only a block long (for non New Yorkers)
In order to be "West" it has to be West of 5th Avenue & 9th Street ends at 6th Avenue and becomes Christopher Street. There's not much parking to begin with in that area.
Also, that area got overrun by NYU students a long time ago, if you really want to talk about the downfall of the area.

6. Are there still a lot of gay bars around Christopher Street?
Interesting spot to pick to live.

7. well, yes, but
You have to cross over 6th Avenue to get to that area and the way New York City is neighborhoods change radically in only a few blocks.
The area on 9th Street itself is pretty upscale. The whole area has become more and more an adjunct of NYU.
There are still people living in rent control apartments there which gives it some of its old spirit, but the Village of Bob Dylan's time is rapidly disappearing around there.
It's much more touristy and studenty than it used to be. Lots of people who have lots of money, kids living there from their parent's allowance, etc.
So I would think that aside from its history a Bush child would feel quite comfortable there.
I'm guessing that studio apartments (4-500 square feet) probably run at least $2000 a month if you moved in to one today.
