Soldier gets 90 years in Iraq rape case

Soldier gets 90 years in Iraq rape case

By RYAN LENZ, Associated Press Writer 40 minutes ago

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. - A soldier was sentenced Thursday to 90 years in prison with the possibility of parole for conspiring to rape a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and kill her and her family.

Spc. James P. Barker, one of four Fort Campbell soldiers accused in the March 12 rape and killings, pleaded guilty Wednesday and agreed to testify against the others to avoid the death penalty.

"This court sentences you to be confined for the length of your natural life, with the eligibility of parole," said Lt. Col. Richard Anderson, the military judge presiding over the court-martial.

Under the plea agreement, Barker got a life sentence but will not serve more than 90 years in prison, Anderson said. He will be eligible for parole in 20 years.

1. I feel sorry for his parents

Dam him to hell for besmirching his family's name and reputation.

If he had any decency, he would know what to do.

2. Considering what we would do to someone who
raped and killed an entire family (mass murder) here in a civilian criminal court, this was a total gift.

Out in 20... He will likely only be 41 or 42.

His victim was a 14 year old girl. And, reading the reports, it was pre-meditated.

3. 20 Years Worse
From what I have heard about what happens to guys like him in prison that 20 years will be worse than anything else that could have happened to him. I have heard that people who molest or hurt small children have a very hard time in prison. It is a good possibility that he will be raped and beaten every day of that 20 years. In addition, I think he will have to stay in prison for the full sentence.

5. He disgraces the army I once proudly fought for.
Fuck him. I'm not a big fan of cursing, but this is how I truly feel. Fuck him. Evil has no place in our country's military.

6. The whole problem
is impossibly difficult. In another thread They were discussing a waiter, back from Faluja, saying that if we knew we wouldn't send our boys over there in the first place. He discussed the houses that weren't marked and that they busted in and shot entire families, kids and all. Spc. Baker according to a radio broadcast stated the war make him mad and mean or something like that. I do believe that war can make you a mindless killer where one killing is no better or no worse than any other. I ache for all these 18 to 20 something year old kids. Their minds become numb with propaganda, peer pressure, and killing. And just like the prison scandals it's the kids not the officers that take the long sentences.
