My problem with the DU pissing matches re: Democratic politicians. . .
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 11:32 PM by wndycty
I have my favorites and I have my not so favorites. When I feel it necessary I don't mind criticism of my favorties or not so favorites, as a matter of fact I engage in it as well. HOWEVER I see all this name calling, accusations and just outright bashing and I feel the need to remind all of you to be mindful of the fact that the potential presidential candidate (EdwardsGoreClarkClintonObamaKerryVilsakBayhBiden et al) you bash today may be the very person we are going to have to rally behind in 2008.

This is not to shut people up and to discourage people from stumping for their favorites (Clark/Obama or Obama/Clark for me) but to just be mindful of the big picture. Criticism is valid but this shit has just gotten outright ridiculous.

2. You've got to be kidding, right?
Not unless administration creates a rule around here against bashing the DEM nominee!

otherwise, you're just whistling past the graveyard, dear one!

4. No need for any kind of rule. . .
. . .I would like to think common sense and decency don't require rules.

14. Yeah but its hard to take back the shit that will already be out there. . .
. . .not at all for censorship and have no desire to shut anyone up but this is really getting out of hand. When I look at how bad Obama is getting it from some and he has not even thrown his hat in yet.

It also feels like it's starting WAY too early !

There's an old Chinese saying, (actually, I think it's a curse !)

"May you live in interesting times."

13. Will edit and add. . .
I know who I want to win and who I'm willing to fight for, but my eye is on the prize. My guy lost in 2004 and I fought like hell for him (many DUers can vouch how hard I worked for the General in 2004) but had no problem backing Kerry. I'm torn between Clark and Obama, and when I choose I will fight like hell for either one and if they don't get it I'm on board with whomever does.

8. Lot of non-productive arguments....but one thing about DUer's.
They got opinions. And I am guilty of contributing to a few of them myself.

9. i agree civil criticism is warranted
BUT, part of the fun of being a Democrat is that we are opinionated free-thinkers, and love our individual choices. One of the scarier things Republicans do is follow this authoritarian mindset of follow the leader, without criticism (except when the leader is down). I think the fundamental way that Democrats think is we fight even in our own party, but rally behind the final choice. while Republicans rally first, and then find ways to backstab their own leaders when the going gets tough. Look at how Democrats fought over the pros/cons of Clinton, but around impeachment time rallied behind him. Bush is in trouble now, and Republicans are abandoning him without a shred of loyalty. Anyone else think I got it right?

12. Unfortunately, the repubs don't have the market
cornered on ass wipes. There are dems who can be just as narrow minded and unkind. Yes, even here at DU.....surprise, surprise.

I don't bash dems, those that we bash today, we may need tomorrow. Now, Nader and the greens are another matter, well and of course the neocons. That gives me plenty of fodder for bashing that I don't need to take it out on a dem that isn't my favorite.

18. I find it really hard to understand. Maybe the anonymity here frees some people...
to spew invective at others. Do they exhibit the same lack of respect and basic kindness, I wonder, in life offline?

19. Unfortunately, I'm forced to
I live in Republican hell. These people are so obnoxious, rude, and even physically threatening, that you have to respond in kind just to survive. :(
