How did Values Voters really vote? |
|
We voted to throw the bums out and send the Democrats to Washington. We were overwhelmingly successful.
In states where were asked if we wanted to codify bigotry by banning gay marriage, we said "No, thanks." With the exception of Arizona, we were less successful on this one.
I'm done with the way the GOP is allowed to frame the debate by creating identifiers such as "Values Voters," with the MSM going along with the definition like a good doggie. It might seem like a minor thing, but it's a major thing. Calling those who support the rightwing social (antisocial, really) agenda "Values Voters" sends a clear message that people who voted based on other issues or who voted for the progressive stance on social issues do not make their choices based on their values.

1. "Colorado Springs Values" |
|
The "framing" issue that you mentioned is very important. I noticed that the Fox News Channel started using very frequently the phrase "San Francisco values" trying to make it popular and acceptable in the media. In my opinion, we need to start using the phrase "Colorado Springs values" to counteract this campaign. Colorado Springs is a town known for being the HQ for many conservative evangelical churches. Using this expression will connote the values of the extreme right (almost fascist) wing of the Republican Party.
We ought to make sure that the war of words (the so-called "framing" issue) is not won by the GOP. Start using the phrase
COLORADO SPRINGS VALUES
