"Laura and I were talking about how amazing it is that we're here in Vietnam..."

"Laura and I were talking about how amazing it is that we're here in Vietnam," the president said. "My first reaction is history has a long march and societies change and relationships can constantly be altered to the good," Bush said. Bush said that "the world that we live in today is one where they want things to happen immediately and it's hard work in Iraq."

Bush said he assured Howard that "we will get the job done" and will stand with the embattled government of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

"We'll succeed unless we quit," Bush said. "The Maliki government is going to make it unless the coalition leaves before they have a chance to make it."

Bush expressed appreciation for Australia's help and said he recognized there were questions about the U.S. role in Iraq and the deployment of about 144,000 American forces.

8. That ugly iridescent shirt-dress/ball gown
deserves its own thread. Even for Pickles, it's way over the top. Looks like she raided the bargain bin at the fabric store, bought yards of something that looks like the rainbow phosphates in cheap roast beef, swiped the patterns for two different outfits - neither of which is her size - and hired someone who has never sewn before to patch it all together. No one expects her to buy haute couture, but this is just ridiculous.

However Bush said it was "hard work".

14. Laura--gathered skirts made of stiff material tend to make the hips look LARGER.
You've got a fine figure for a lady your age. But one should dress to minimize certain parts of the body.

How do we nominate someone for "What Not to Wear"?

(Yes, I know this is frivolous. Let's discuss Laura's accomplishments:

16. I think "How Do I Look?" is a better prospect. Either way,
she seriously needs an intervention.

3. But what's really amazing is that you can only be there BECAUSE WE QUIT
and because Bill Clinton had the courage to normalize relations with Vietnam, a gesture of decency that 12 years of Republican Presidency before him could not manage.

17. Where most of the ground work was done by vets in the Senate led by Kerry
Without all the work and diplomacy that Kerry and others, includidng McCain did with Vietnam, it wouldn't have happened.

11. Uncalled for.
Seriously, enough of the lame, racist "Asians eat puppy dogs!" stereotype. :eyes:

12. I've been in the "Orient" and it's not a stereotype
I lived next to Filipinos who raised dogs to eat.

It's a different culture, that's all. It's not a "lame" stereotype. Some people eat dogs and cats; others keep them as pets. Some people eat cows; others keep them as pets. To each their own.

13. Hey, I'm half Korean.
I was unceasingly tortured as a kid as being a "dog" eater (all the while I'm vegetarian). Please don't promote that stereotype that all Asians want to do is scarf puppies.

Sorry, but this issue chafes my hide. Not ALL Asians eat dogs, okay?

21. Hey, I'm half Canadian and we don't all say "eh"
I never claimed that ALL Asians consume dog.

I very rarely make sweeping generalities. In this case I was making a joke.

6. That picture of him is so weird
It doesn't even look like him. I heard his speech. He sounded amazingly coherent. Do you think they have doubles for him like they did for Suddan Hussain.
