How far are the Democrats willing to go on "ethics reform"? |
|
Or do most of them agree with Murtha that it's a "bunch of crap"? Will they put forth public financing of elections? I am not so naive to believe that there are not Democrats that enjoy the present political cushion as much as the Republicans do. Will they create an oversight board for the Ethics Committee in the House? Will they put limits on the lobbyists and K-Street operatives? Will they stop the Christmas tree add-ons to bills, that benefit individual districts?
It is my opinion that this is very important to the American people. If the Democrats could make significant and visible progress in this area, it could only help them in their next election. First thing they could do is simply not give themselves another pay raise. This would be a good first step.

1. The proposals I was hearing from Pelosi were pretty rigorous. |
|
I forgot what most of them were though.

2. My guess is it's at the top of the list. Pelosi said so, and she better deliver the |

votes.
If the Dems have some dirty members they need to go after them and the dirty Repos simultaneously. Do it quick, fair and transparent.
The political good will this would bring from the voters will be priceless.
Then they can go after the sins of the administration without appearing to be hypocrites.
