Hillary would make better President than Rudy - New York Poll
NEW YORK (AFP) - By a 67-47 percent margin, New Yorkers think senator and former first lady Hillary Clinton would do a better job as US president than their former mayor Rudolph Giuliani, a Quinnipiac University poll found.

Of the two, only Republican Giuliani, 62, has set up a committee to explore a possible run in the 2008 presidential election. Speculation is rampant, however, that Clinton will run as well after she was reelected the US Senate from New York on November 7.

In the poll, 33 percent of New Yorkers said Giuliani would make "a bad president" and 24 percent, "a so-so president," while 14 and 27 percent, respectively, believe he would make a "great" or "good" president.

The wife of former president Bill Clinton, on the other hand, was favored as a "great" or "good" president-to-be by 28 and 36 percent, respectively. Thirteen percent felt she would be a "bad" president and 17 percent, "so-so."

Meanwhile, current New York Mayor and billionaire Michael Bloomberg, 64, had 72 percent support among survey takers who thought he was doing a good job. Fifty-eight percent believe he will not seek the 2008 presidential nomination, and only 35 percent said they would vote for him if he did.

"New Yorkers are a tough crowd," said Quinnipiac Institute Director Maurice Carroll.

"Mayor Bloomberg, (New York) Governor George Pataki and former mayor Rudy Giuliani all fail to hit the 50 percent mark as potentially 'good' presidents, let alone 'great,'" she added.

"The one New York star who a lot of politicians think really might run - Senator Hillary Clinton - scores the highest."

In the poll, 1,314 New York voters were consulted November 8-12. The margin of error was, plus or minus, 2.7 percent.

I agree. It's what I have been saying all along. "Never forget" what the man did BEFORE 9/11.

1. NYers remember ...
Rudy got a bit dictatorial during his last couple of years as mayor. He did well on 9/11 ... but NYers won't forget the crap he pulled before that.

6. I'm Disturbed That NYers Love Mrs. Clinton
I suppose that this is related to NYC being effectively on the side of the British in the Revolution.

Sigh.

7. Not to pick at AFP, but doesn't 67 per cent plus 47 per cent equal 114 per cent? n/m

I knew he couldn't get elected in NYC!
Quinnipiac is obsessed with mathching these two! Ever since 9/11 they've been doing these.

9. I don't like his NYC values

Hey, if they can say they don't like San Francisco values because of Pelosi then turnabout is fair play.

10. Hillary...
...holds more popular sway in New York than Guiliani does. So this is not surprising.

13. A lot of people in the midwest
still don't have a positive view of NYC. They are also more inclined to think of the Golden Gate bridge than negative connotations of San Francisco, yet, the GOP is trying to demonize SF. Hillary is a seen as senator from NY state which is different than being associated with NYC. So, since Giuliani is associated with NYC, why can't we do the same thing they are?

Remember how they look to lock Dems into images? Like we are all as one-dimensional as they are? Remember how that "latte-drinking, volvo-driving" liberal label was used derogatorially against us? Well, I think we should start the "NYC values" against Giuli and the GOP. Corruption, backroom deals, police state, there is a lot of ammo that can be used against Giuli. Remember when Giuli had Arafat removed from a UN celebration at Lincoln Center? His return to social order and cleaning up NYC meant harassing the homeless, profiling (even members of his staff were stopped), police brutality (Abner Louima and Amadou Diallo) and basically juking police stats with an increased enforcement of petty crimes.

14. Um... so would I.
And I don't know the first thing about running a country.

Hillary might well make a great president, and/or candidate. She might well not. But that she would be a better president than Giuliani is a) indisputable and b) not a terribly strong point in her favour.
