Video clip from Wyoming local news of Dean's public rally.
http://www.localnews8.com/news/local/4682301.html

The newscasters seemed so surprised to actually have a Democratic leader visit there. He spoke to the ASDC group later, but this was free speech, open to the public.

He poked fun that Cheney had to go to his home state to campaign for Cubin against Trauner...praised Trauner for doing so well.

"Wyoming was a big success story,” Dean told a standing room only audience Friday at the Snake River Lodge and Spa. “Who would have thought it would be within 1,000 votes and the vice president would have to come in to campaign.”

Dean’s remarks were met with loud cheers from the crowd, which was made up predominantly of Democrats.

Later that day at a speech given before the Association of State Democratic Chairs at the Four Seasons Resort, Dean hailed the success of Democrats across the nation in the recent elections as proof that his 50- state strategy worked on a national scale.

“It was a great win for what I call the new Democratic Party,” Dean said. “This is the new Democratic Party. The old Democratic Party is back there in Washington, sometimes they still complain a little bit.”

1. Once again...THANKS HOWARD!
Stories like this one is the PROOF that Howard knew what he was doing 2 years ago when he was electedDNC Chairman. I believe he's been the best Chairman that I can remember! Stay with us Howard, and let's replace Carville and his mouth!

6. Try it again. Just click on the blank screen and wait a short bit.
It is worth it just to hear them sing Happy Birthday to Dean.

7. Yep, they sure did
I noticed when it was in writing on the screen they had "Democratic" but those speaking couldn't quite bring themselves to get it right. Pathetic.

8. They act like Democrats are intruding on their territory.
I have noticed this in other local coverage in the so-called red atates.

I never noticed this kind of stuff until Bush came into office.

20. In a way, we are
When was the last time a national Democratic figure went to Wyoming for a political rally? The GOP has had all these lightly-populated states locked up for so long, that they've taken them for granted. A visit from Howard Dean, a couple of stops from some other Democrats, and I'll bet we could turn even Wyoming a far more blue shade of purple.

One of the most depressing things in the last several presidential elections has been to watch the closing of the Central time zone polls, and watch that big stripe of red run right down the center of the country from North Dakota to Texas, as those states are called almost immediately for the Republican candidate. The red then spreads east as the more populous states weigh in, then there's another big blotch of red as the Mountain time zone polls close. It would sure make watching the returns a lot easier if there were a couple of blue states in that big red spot.

9. Great Dean quote from the linked article
“You can’t be the powerful party in this country who controls the government unless you are willing to let the people control you. And the only way you can do that is ask everybody for their vote, understand everybody is our boss even if they vote for you or not.”

13. He meant that, too.
He said when he was governor he would go to where they were the most angry with him, and let them sound off. Then they would try to reason.

11. Home Field Advantage for 19% Dick Cheney
come one Wyoming, stop with the Cheney support. He's a criminal and if the right thing would happen under our democracy, he'd be impeached along with the idiot Bush.

12. Dean says people who complain always get the headlines.....
“The people who complain always get the headlines,” Dean said, adding there are other high-profile Democrats who support his initiative. “But the fact is that this strategy not only works, it works in states Democrats have given up on for 30 years.

“We cannot give up on anybody.”

14. And Carville wants Dean to be fired.
Edited on Sat Nov-18-06 08:29 PM by Cascadian
I swear to the Creator, if some people in power or influence within the Democratic Party try to get rid of Dean then the Democratic Party will be in trouble. Howard Dean is the best DNC Chair this party has had in a long time.

16. The Nation has something today: The Odd Attack on Dean.
And it was odd and out of place.

http://www.thenation.com/doc/20061211/editors

"The Ragin' Cajun was promptly stuffed. Don Fowler, former state party chair of South Carolina, observed: "Asking Dean to step down now, after last week, is equivalent to asking Eisenhower to resign after the Normandy invasion." Senator Harry Reid, the new majority leader, rallied to Dean too. "I didn't support his running for the chair of the DNC," Reid said. "I was wrong. He was right: I support his grassroots Democratic Party-building."

Carville's reckless foray, joined by pollster Stanley Greenberg, is worthy of comment only because the two are picking a fight that reflects the deep, potentially explosive fault-line in the party: the battle for control between old and new. Carville speaks for yesterday's failed politics--the Clinton years. Dean represents a more promising future with his aggressive efforts to rebuild a fifty-state party that grows from the grassroots up."

"Surprise--Dean has actually done what he promised. He gets funds to states, with the result that Democrats are speaking directly again to people in red areas, including through ads on Christian-right radio. This is politics for the long term. Nobody expects early conversion in Mississippi. But less than two years after Dean's launch, Democrats won control of the House and Senate for the first time since the Clinton team lost it in 1994.

The party does face a soul-searching reckoning, and this is a good fight to have. But it should not be determined by the typical push-and-shove of Beltway insiders arguing over tactics. The argument has to be more fundamental: Are Democrats ready to take on the big concerns they have so often finessed in this conservative era? Will they respond to the anger and discontents expressed by people in this election, or will they continue to play it safe?"
