2. We need more non-senators running for the Dem nomination
only two snators have been elected president in the last 100 years. They are much easier to slime than other kinds of candidates.

3. Yup, who's the darkhorse Governor?
With Warner dropping out, there has to be someone. Ed Rendell in Pennsylvania? Richardson?

8. What about some southern governors?
Any N.C. DU'ers know about Easley? I'm just trying to think of some other Dem. governors that maybe no one is mentioning yet.

Rendell, Sebilius, Henry all won with big margins I believe, but they're not mentioned as possible candidates.

We have a lot of popular Democratic governors out there. It's a pity that none of them are much interested in running.

10. What of Bayh - he was Governor of Indiana
Like VA, you can only be Governor so long. He has more experince than Warner - unlike someone who was just a Governor, he has experience dealing eith the Senate and some national security experience. (He has a better personal reputation than Richardson.)

4. We need experience- any Dem would be slimmed. besides,
conventional wisdom has gotten us Bush. I have no problem with running senators. We got a great president in Kennedy, and he was a senator and I believe congressman before that.

13. If you think senators aren't a little harder to elect than governors
I absolutely disagree. 2 senators elected president in 100 years is enough confirmation for me. I don't think a sitting president has ever been defeated by a senator. But look at the last couple of decades: Ford (defeated by a governor), Carter (defeated by a governor), HW Bush (defeated by a governor).

How did "conventional wisdom" get us Bush? What did the supreme court have to do with "conventional wisdom?"

6. Most people don't think Gore is running, I think that's why he's at 10%
The media has been propping up Hillary for two years, and Obama in recent weeks.

7. Once again, Wes Clark is ignored.
Considering he actually won a state or two in '04, you'd think someone would remember him.

9. From SurveyUSA....
Oh dear, Guliani is kicking more butt than McCain....a friend of mine put this together for me, from email and I know his source was http://www.surveyusa.com/

There's no page with all of the results posted, but here are the pertinent ones:

Electoral College results:
Edwards 532, Brownback 6
Edwards 523, Frist 15
Edwards 538, Gingrich 0
Edwards 100, Giuliani 438
Edwards 538, Huckabee 0
Edwards 266, McCain 272
Edwards 435, Rice 103
Edwards 529, Romney 9

Gore 510, Brownback 28
Gore 476, Frist 62
Gore 512, Gingrich 26
Gore 148, Giuliani 390
Gore 510, Huckabee 28
Gore 161, McCain 377
Gore 311, Rice 227
Gore 526, Romney 12

Clinton 512, Brownback 26
Clinton 505, Frist 33
Clinton 508, Gingrich 30
Clinton 184, Giuliani 354
Clinton 518, Huckabee 20
Clinton 187, McCain 351
Clinton 373, Rice 165
Clinton 416, Romney 122

These two guys (Clark and Obama) suffer from low name ID, but they've obviously got a ton of work to do:

Clark 9, Giuliani 529
Clark 9, McCain 529

Obama 28, Giuliani 510
Obama 28, McCain 510
Obama 76, Rice 462

---------------

I'm sure these numbers change daily, but do we know what polls our favorite hopefuls pay attention to? Obviously not DU's :D

11. Right now, name recognition.
Hillary was the wife of the president, Obama just has gotten a huge media blast, just like he got at the convention. He is getting all the publicity for his book now.

I doubt he will run when it comes down to brass tacks. I think he should wait a little longer.

The others are not getting that much attention from the media right now.

Look at how we won 6 governorships ...not a word of credit to Bil Richardson. Nothing. He and Dean had a press conference about these great wins...no coverage even at C-Span.

The media still has the power, just as they did when they gave Dean a shirt with those words emblazoned on it.

I saved a picture from the press conference with Richardson...no one carried it.

12. Yup. Wasn't Joementum ahead in the polls at this point in the 2004 race?
I disagree with you about Obama needing to delay his bid, but you're absolutely right that his numbers are just an effect of the Obama love-fest in the media for the last month or so.

Polling numbers at this point are more useless than those baseball season previews that come out in February.
