8. Thanks for the update.
V for Vendetta is certainly one of the meaningful movies of our time and one of my all time favorites. I rewatched it for maybe the 10th time on the 5th of November.

14. I'm glad to see it didn't get ugly - I'm actually very glad to see that.
The guy at the end was very level headed and calm - but I can't believe he had never seen V for Vendetta! Isn't that a part of his job description, to keep up to date on "subversive" movies? That guy needs to do his homework.

11. Cool, but I am not sure about the We the People group
Their main objective is to get rid of the federal income tax. They say that it is unconstitutional. I say, where else would the government get their money from to invest in our future? No federal income tax would mean that the rich get richer.

15. Actually, from what I've heard, the income tax only goes to pay off the interest
to the Federal Reserve, for what the US Government has borrowed over the decades. All the other taxes (the hundreds of them) like gas taxes, cigarette taxes, corporate taxes, capital gains, etc... go toward the Federal Budget. Of course, Bush has been spending more money than that, so he's also borrowing from the Chinese and Saudis to pay for that...

Anyway, it's true that the income tax is unconstitutional AND the Supreme Court ruled against it back in the 30's. There's actually no law that was ever passed by Congress (I think the 16th Amendment doesn't allow for it) for Federal Income tax. There was actually an ad put out a while ago offering $50,000 (or something like that) to anyone who could site the law which states citizens must pay an income tax. No one was ever able to do it.

I just learned about this whole subject the other day watching Aaron Russo's documentary about this called "From Freedom to Fascism". It's a great documentary and I recommend it.

Interest to the vultures and corporate welfare. We could devise something else and be better off. At least the fascists would be put out of work!

18. Yep, this is a Libertarian (at best) group, and after seeing the response to you
From file83, it draws a number of wack-jobs.

The income tax is NOT unconstitutional. It was put into place PRECISELY by an ammendment to the consistitution. Hey! Anyone can "Wiki", right? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixteenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution

Here are the words:
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

Pretty darn clear.

Too bad V for Vendetta has been co-opted, but most "anti-" culture movements seem ripe to be co-opted by pop culture and the Scientologist-like wack-jobs that follow this stuff.

21. Good catch, Libertarian subterfuge
No taxes and we can forget the courts, clean water, clean air, police, fire fighters, roads, democracy, etc. This may have all been and ruse to use a popular movie to support a Republican Theme, i.e., destroy goverment so corporations can rule us instead.

22. Oh oh, the group behind this has problems!
TAX FRAUD PROMOTERS ASSOCIATED WITH 'WE THE PEOPLE' ARRESTED BY IRS AGENTS FOR SELLING BOGUS 'TRUSTS' THAT FALSELY PROMISED TO PROTECT INCOME FROM TAXES
Seven individuals associated with a tax fraud group known as "We the People" and “Sovereignty Pure Trusts” were arrested this morning on various federal charges related to the promotion of bogus tax shelters that falsely promised to limit exposure to federal income taxes.
A federal grand jury in Los Angeles on Thursday returned a 35-count indictment that includes charges of conspiring to defraud the Internal Revenue Service and fraudulently using Social Security Numbers and passports.
These defendants are expected to make their initial court appearances this afternoon in various federal courthouses in California.
According to the indictment, from October 1994 to November 2001, Meredith sold books and bogus trusts to people with the purpose of leading them to believe they could legally protect income and assets from taxation. The defendants allegedly encouraged and assisted taxpayers by forming phony trusts, opening bank accounts with phony Taxpayer Identification Numbers, filing fraudulent income tax returns and encouraging taxpayers not to file income tax returns.
We the People sold the “trusts" for approximately $500 at seminars that were held throughout the United States and internationally. To entice potential trust purchasers at seminars, Meredith represented that the trusts were "professional and affordable” and that each trust was customized with the “combined efforts of attorneys, paralegals, CPAs and other professional staff for its execution."
When purchasers complained about the trusts, We the People – which was also known as Free the People, Sovereignty Pure Trusts and Liberty International – refused to issue refunds.

27. There is a problem with the definition of Income
United States Supreme Court defines it:

“…Whatever difficulty there may be about a precise scientific definition of ‘income,’ it imports, as used here, something entirely distinct from principal or capital either as a subject of taxation or as a measure of the tax; conveying rather the idea of gain or increase arising from corporate activities.”

And the Constitution only allows apportioned direct tax, but the tax on wages is an un-apportioned direct tax

Here is more information about this law stuff
http://www.givemeliberty.org/RTPLawsuit/Misc/WashTimesDraft2-08-05.htm

I don't know if obeying the constitution is a good thing, especially in light of habeas corpus, Posse Comitatus or everyday things like declaring war

It is greedy wack-jobs. Talk about parsing carefully to redefine greed as a fight for freedom.

When are the Libertarianish, self-centered and greedy little minds, EVER going to to accept that MONEY, Wealth, Possessions, etc., are NOT one of those "inalienable rights"?

19. ya gotta love the imagery of a hundred citizens in Fawksian masks
It should be an example for mass mobilization protests. The anonymity of the masks is a great idea as it allows the masses to speak with one voice and not be afraid. Marching in a protest today can be a very scary ordeal (between pepper spray, billy clubs, facial recognition software, and possible internment). I unfortunately have been to protests where masks were not "tolerated". (it makes it more difficult for them to take pictures and force coercion through surveillance). I hope that more protest groups use the Fawksian masks to represent the voice of the citizenry (or vox populi) as a whole. The masks also do not immediately put law enforcement on the defense as quick as a hundred marchers with helmets and bandanas (suggesting trouble to come). Never underestimate the power of simple, elegant, civility.

31. If you read the article.. you would know that the director likes the idea

We received an email from the Director of the movie, “V for Vendetta.” He was aware of our events and said he wanted to send a few words of encouragement and was happy that “V” had made it into the popular vernacular. He closed with the words, “Fight The Power."
