Hagel's war chest holds just $110,000 as '08 looms
BY JAKE THOMPSON
WORLD-HERALD BUREAU
WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska spent so much time the past two years raising money for Republican causes that he's got little on hand for a possible re-election bid in 2008 or for a presidential campaign.
Through his Senate campaign and his Sandhills political action committee, Hagel raised almost $1.5 million.
Nebraska GOP candidates, the state party and local GOP committees received contributions from Hagel's war chest, as did candidates and political committees across the country.
That left Hagel with the least amount of campaign cash on hand - $110,000 - of the 33 senators who could face re-election in 2008, according to federal campaign spending reports.
Hagel will complete his second six-year term in two years.

He has said he's considering three options: launching a bid for the White House, running for re-election in Nebraska or retiring.
Last week, after the midterm elections, Hagel said he would decide which course to pursue after the first of the year.
