What do you think was the core issue of the Federal 2006 election?
I believe it was Iraq. The American people strongly oppose the war and we've sent a message: get us out of Iraq.

We don't need a draft to get people worked up about the war. We're already sick to death of it. If the Democrats follow Rangel's lead on this, the vast majority of those who voted for them are going to feel grossly betrayed.

1. Glad you asked
I've heard it was Iraq and I've also heard it was corruption. Which? Anyone have any links to polls?

5. Why do people assume Iraq and corruption are mutually exclusive?

14. The media doesn't reconize that the US in Iraq is corruption? That's fine,
but my bet is if the US had actually spent the billions allocated for reconstruction on reconstruction, for instance, people wouldn't be as opposed to the US occupation.

If our corrupt President hadn't fabricated the reasons for war in Iraq, if Iraq wasn't a corrupt enterprise, support for the war would be higher.

It's not just the loss of life that has people against the war, but also the squandering of hundreds of billions of dollars for a totally corrupt cause. Blood for oil is about as corrupt as it gets. The Iraqi government and the US administration in Iraq are both viewed as corrupt.

So I see the polls to be relevant on about the same level as a poll that asks,

"Do you favor more money for schools, or more money for job training?"

If you google "2006 exit poll" I bet you can find the answer to your question. CNN had some detailed answer breakdowns to exit poll questions asked in the 2006 mid terms.

2. Fuck-Up Fatigue
We The People were tired of fuck-up after fuck-up. Every day a new fuck up.

The draft is a good idea, I think. If the Elites want to kill for oil, then their kids should be a part of it, instead of doing hedge funds.

6. The children of the elite will NEVER serve...
And we can't make them.

Most of them have access to resources we can't even imagine. If they want to leave the country, if they want to expatriate, they can do it in a HEARTBEAT. I mean, they're only nominally citizens of the U.S. in the first place. They're more accurate described as citizens of transglobal enterprises.

3. Since the MSM says it was Iraq, it MUST have been Bush's culture of corruption!

4. Iraq. And I maintain Rangel is doing this to hit the masses upside
the head with what could also happen. There are an awful lot of people who are totally clueless unless or until it might affect them.

7. The masses have already woken up. That was the message of the election,
IMO.

We sent a message to get out of this damn war. Not to start a draft and expand into Iran and Korea.

Rangel may think he's calling Bush's bluff, but this is a very dangerous game to play. Bush may be happy to take him up on it. He could have his draft and yet the Dems would be equally responsible for it. Great.

10. Rangel has been saying this for years and it's gone no where. He's
saying it to make a point imo, to stir up some controversy and conversation. Neither are a bad thing.

assuming they'll go nowhere. Read the headlines. Lots of people are taking this seriously, and it will come back to bite the Dems, believe me.

9. The great Republican disconnect.
People were fed up with Republicans not listening to their needs. Katrina was the great symbolic turning point, as people saw the suffering and neglect after the storm, and saw the Republicans, led by Bush, callously offering excuses as to why none of it was their fault, rather than just trying to fix the problem. That made people more aware of the same attitude concerning Iraq--the Republicans were in effect telling Americans "We don't care what you think, we are the ones who matter, and you are just wrong." Once Americans began to understand this, they saw it in the way the Repubs handled gas prices, unemployment, health care, the phoney "booming economy," etc.

People finally saw through the Republican facade, saw that Republicans only care about rich people, and about winning--never about the country or the people.

All of the exit polls show symptoms of this primary cause.

12. I believe the election criterion was: Not Bush.
If there was no Democratic Party, and especially no strategy for the Democrats like Dean's, would the Republicans have won?

I think if there was a political party of undead vampires whose main issue was scheduled slaughter of high school cheerleaders to feed their bloodlust - you know, just like the kids who play "Vampire the Masquerade" organized into a poltical party - THEY would have won against Bush.

The real challenge is for the Democrats to prove they can do better. Now that they're coming down from their victory high, it's time for them to go to work.

First, before they can prove they can do better, they have to establish a baseline. Exactly how bad are things right now? Then, after they work on problems, they can PROVE to voters that they've done better than the Republicans.

It would be nice to believe that the general public is really sick of the Iraq war, but I STILL see too many "W" stickers and anti-Kerry stickers on cars here in Florida to believe it. They still believe in the Monkey. Only a measured and documented improvement in everything - jobs, poverty, emergency preparedness, general competency, AND winding down the war - will help the Democrats win in 2008.

15. Where has America Gone
I sent this reply to Greta Van Susteren when she aired the JFK
Assassination isn't Closed

While I would like to think the various Media Companies
would want to get to the truth and follow up the various leads
they seem to be place-nt at letting things rest as they are.
I have a copy of the audio sound of the gunfire at Dealey
Plaza that day. They spacing of the shots fired proves
without any doubt that one rifle couldn't maintain the firing
according to the recording never mind trying to place the
acoustics. There wasn't enough time as you listen to the last
two shots for a bolt action rifle to fire those last two
shots.
What disturbs me the most is that our elected President,
whether you were for him or against him, was murdered in cold
blood. Our government didn't try to find the truth about the
assassination. The House Committee on Assassinations
concluded that in all probability there was a conspiracy and
recommended the U. S.Attorney to follow up. Nothing has been
done.....why ?????? Is it okay to co-done the Murdering of a
U. S. President???? How sick does our Country have to be to
allow such?
I served in the Arm Forces, I was not drafted, I volunteered.
I believed in what this Country stood for. When I traveled
around Europe, the U. S. had great respect. Can you recall
the last time a U. S. President died the representation from
all over the World was represented here in the U.S..
The Statue of Liberty should have a drape over it as if it was
ashamed. We pride ourselves as a Democracy, but our Elected
Officials fail to uphold their oath of office. Let the truth
be told so all the World can once again believe that the
United States is a TRUE DEMOCRACY

Yours truly,
Wm Connor
