The last President from Illinois...

6. I saw that for the first time on CNN tonight. Also President of Harvard
Law Review.

I decided tonight that right now, he is my frontrunner. Now I want to see him on issues.

8. He proposed a detailed plan for Iraq today
Watching it on CSPAN now. It's a realistic plan and it gets our troops out ASAP, without causing further chaos in Iraq.

The most significant thing about this speech for me is that OBAMA IS CLEARLY RUNNING IN 2008!

:woohoo:

2. Oh, I agree, the "experience"
argument is so silly. Otherwise we'd be "Mo'Joementum 2008" right now

3. He led the country through war
and seems to have made good judgments. Obama would have something to great to fall back on if opponents start throwing out the experience stuff.

5. As I recall, Lincoln actually lost the last election he was in prior
to his being elected President. And he beat the guy that he was running against for Senate.

7. The experience claim is largely BS
I don't think I've ever voted for a presidential candidate based upon whether they had a lot of experience in federal government.

If that were the deciding factor, I would have voted for:

George H.W. Bush over Bill Clinton
George H.W. Bush over Michael Dukakis

And I would have voted for Joe Lieberman over just about anyone in the 2004 primaries.

The experience argument, in my view, is really only ever used AGAINST a candidate that someone doesn't want to vote for based on other reasons. It is rarely used IN FAVOR of a candidate.
