7-term GOP congressman Pombo seething over loss to neophyte Dem
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2006/11/20/MNG0DMGE031.DTL

This is not what Rep. Richard Pombo expected to be doing in the weeks after the election.

He's packing up his congressional office. His wife, Annette, is moving personal items from their townhouse on Capitol Hill. He's preparing to hand his gavel as chairman of the House Resources Committee to a Democrat. His staff will soon turn over files to the man who stunned the political world by beating him, wind engineer and political neophyte Jerry McNerney.

<snip>

He's convinced that his successor, McNerney, will be ousted two years from now.

"There's no doubt," Pombo said. "We're already hearing guys are talking about running against him in the primary because they know in a different atmosphere the chances of him holding that district aren't that great. Because he's going to have to vote. Nobody would cover him before, who he was, but as the incumbent they will have to. He's going to be voting on things that the people in that district don't like."

<snip>

Pombo is still digesting the loss. In a wide-ranging interview, he used humor to deflect questions about how he's coping with his defeat. But his post-election sentiments are clear: He's furious at his opponents for the very personal campaign they waged against him, and he is still stunned because they pulled it off.

:nopity:

4. Eff him - he'll just have to go back to selling real estate
I can remember driving on I-205 and seeing all these "Pombo Real Estate" signs on fields near Altamont that are now covered with cookie cutter houses.

14. You mean "selling HIS OWN real estate". .
And not ours...
He didn't get the name "land-grab Pombo" for nothing.

5. I'm in this district
It is a red district. I actually cheered when I heard he lost. Before the election my husband, bless his heart, called Pombo's office and told them he and his family would never vote for a man as bad for the enviornment as Pombo. He read them the riot act. Cry me a river Pombo, go back to your farm and raise whatever. Leave my ocean and trees alone!

13. Not really
It's superficial. Doesn't even really address the corruption cloud hanging over Pombo (lighlighted by making CREW"s list) through which the opposition ads hammered him. Very effective negative ads, the material supplied by Pombo, had a lot to do with this victory.

21. His district will realize soon how much time and money they saved...
by voting his ass out of office, when he and a number of other congress critters we didn't kick out at the voting booth get indicted soon (Duncan Hunter, John Doolittle, Jerry Lewis, Brian Bilbray, etc.) and the rest of us have to be unrepresented a while (again here in district 50) and spend more money and time electing someone to replace them later. Fortunately, we have Debra Bowen in place now to ensure that such special elections are run properly!

That will help McNerney hold onto his seat 2 years from now as much as anything else. Voters will see that it pays to vote someone in that isn't corrupt, and also see that the "attack ads" were REAL warnings of what was wrong with Pombo and will thank themselves for listening to them then.

24. The poor dear
The only committee chairman who lost his seat for the Republicans in 2006. Maybe you can be a trail blazer of another sort, Mr. Pombo. Because the sooner you and your ilk have your greedy mitts pried off the levers of power in this country, the better off we'll all be.

all plotting how they'll overthrow the Dems in 2008.

His family owns cattle feedlots? Profitable, but disgusting business - pumping cattle full of feed, chemicals and hormones to fatten them up before slaughter. You can smell those things miles away.

Enjoy the lovely odor out there on the feedlot, Dick.
