From Houston - Witness Describes Police Excessive Force Against Janitors

Yesterday Workers Independent News reported on allegations of excessive force being used by police against janitors protesting for better wages and benefits in Houston. Rachel Clarke was there Here’s her firsthand account.

Clarke: Houston Peace and Justice Center president Dave Atwood describes what he witnessed at the intersection of Travis and Capitol. …

: we saw these horses come out...without any warning to the protesters to be able to disperse...and move into these protestors and step on them with these horses 8:55 that was the wrong thing to do and I call on the HPD to listen to a better way of doing things you do not treat human beings this way

Clarke: The event Atwood refers to resulted in several injuries to protesters, including two fractured arms. It also left most, like Houston janitor Diana Morales, too shaken to about the ordeal. Lynda Tran holds a tearful Morales and says a few words on her behalf…

: Diana was telling me a little earlier how she sustained bruises and is limping today because she was pushed around by horses...
