How can ANYONE take John McCain seriously anymore?
I'm watching the KO re-run. Calling JM's flip-flopping on Roe v. Wade "fascinating" as he adjusts to the political landscape.

I call it gutless, spineless WHORING. No offense to professional sex workers intended. I just don't understand how anyone with half a brain (or even half a half, like those 30 posters at CU) could take anything he says seriously. I think he is a classic example of why torture doesn't work...he'll say ANYTHING under pressure.

1. He wrote a Time Magazine 9/11 memorial essay in late 2002 about why we HAD to attack Iraq

I'm waiting for his apology for helping sell this moral fiasco. He is culpable in all the deaths that have occurred since the invasion. Why the hell is he so concerned about fetuses?

2. And to think I used to admire him. Bleck.
He knows Kerry about as well as anyone, and still he insisted on being obtuse and calling for Kerry's apology re: is botched joke, saying he'd read what Kerry said carefully and couldn't find a reference to Bush in it. Tim Russert called him on it, which I appreciated.

4. I hate the term "flip-flopping"...
It only reminds me of all the flak that Kerry took during the last presidential election. I'm definitely not approving of McCain's reversal of stance, I just wish a different term were used to describe it, if only to differentiate the left from the right.

5. Reagan couldn't/wouldn't overturn Roe V. Wade
when he had a Repub-controlled Senate and a very compliant House.

Duhbyuh couldn't/wouldn't overturn Roe V. Wade in the 6 years when everything he ever wanted was handed to him by his fellow Repubs on a silver platter.

What makes anyone think McCain would be any different?

Repubs have no real interest in overturning Roe v. Wade-- They just like to use it as a convenient wedge issue.

6. You mean they are lying to their fellow evangelicals?

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-faith13oct13,0,3875008.story?coll=la-home-headlines

A new book by a former White House official says that President Bush's top political advisors privately ridiculed evangelical supporters as "nuts" and "goofy" while embracing them in public and using their votes to help win elections.

The former official also writes that the White House office of faith-based initiatives, which Bush promoted as a nonpolitical effort to support religious social-service organizations, was told to host pre-election events designed to mobilize religious voters who would most likely favor Republican candidates.

7. Yeah but who will he be running against?
McCain and Hillary during war? McCain has a military background. A POW and maybe they will throw in some heroic action in service.
