Once again, President Bush picked the wrong man for the job.

Last week, Eric Keroack - an anti-choice, abstinence-only advocate - was appointed to the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary for Population Affairs. In this position, Dr. Keroack would have authority over Title X funding - money that is supposed to go toward comprehensive family planning services, contraception, pap smears, and STI testing and treatment. Dr. Keroack has a record that shows he will work against healthy reproductive choices for women.

> * Medical Director, A Woman's Concern - Keroack headed a group of six "crisis pregnancy centers" that distribute biased information on contraception and abortion. The center's website states that the "crass commercialization and distribution" of contraception is "demeaning to women, degrading of human sexuality and adverse to human health and happiness." The goal of the clinics is to persuade "abortion-vulnerable women" to carry their pregnancies to term. Some clinics are located close to true women's health clinics, advertising "free pregnancy services."
> * Medical Advisory Councilmember, Abstinence Clearinghouse - Keroack promotes abstinence-only education and recommends that contraceptives should only be mentioned to emphasize their failure rates.
> * Speaker at Abstinence Workshops - According to Keroack's presentations, promiscuous women will not be able to form long-lasting relationships because they've used up all of their "bonding" hormone on casual sex. Additionally, Keroack wrote in a 2003 PowerPoint presentation that "PRE-MARITAL SEX is really MODERN GERM WARFARE."
> * Researcher - Keroack has researched the effects of showing a pregnant woman ultrasound images in order to convince her not to have an abortion.
>
> Keroack would advise HHS Secretary Michael Leavitt on issues from adolescent pregnancy to family planning to reproductive health to population issues. The feminist community must demand that an advocate for women's reproductive freedom fill this post.
>
> This is an appointment that Congress does not get to review. Keroack will fill this post - unless Michael Leavitt hears from enough of us. Please, do your part and send an email now.
>
> Send an email now telling Secretary Michael Leavitt that you oppose Bush's appointment of Eric Keroack.

1. W almost alway picks the wrong person because W picks an ideologue to further the extreme RW agenda
rather than execute the law and legitimate mission of the office.

5. Why does Bush hate women ???
Do you think he has issues with women having power over him at home, so he has to be a SOB to them through the law?

6. You expect him to appoint pro-choice?
This is just GWB following his pattern of thought. If it helps sink the Reps in '08, that's just a consequence of his stubborn far-right-wing bone-headedness.

No surprise with this appointment.

8. If * had his way...
Our pets would have more rights to family planning than there human owners would. And my dog thinks she's superior to me now...just wait!
