Shays on Iraq: The buck stops ... with the Dems
Here's Republican Rep. Christopher Shays saddling the newly-elected Democrats - who, until now, haven't been in a position to do anything about our failed Iraq policy - with ownership of the quagmire:
MATTHEWS: Let me ask you first about the Iraq war, you've been there so many times. You know the situation. What is it right now, the situation in Iraq with our troops?

SHAYS: Well, the problem is we're a divided nation. We went into Iraq on a bipartisan basis and we're gonna have to find a bipartisan solution, and the Democrats may not want to own Iraq but they own it now as much as this President. And that's not a bad thing.
And that's also not a true thing, Mr. Shays. We, of course, knew this was going to happen. This is something I wrote to a right-wing troll in September:
So, by asking the Democrats you would rather keep silent about what we would do, why don't you look in the mirror and realize that your party has lost this war. Not the Democrats. Not the media. Not Michael Moore. Not Cindy Sheehan. The Republicans. And, now that that's happened, now that your party has gotten drunk, stolen the family car, gone on a rampage around town and has driven the car off of a cliff, now you're turning to us and asking, "Well, what would you do? What will you do to fix things?"
In other words, meet the Shays Doctrine.

4. Chris Shays is just lucky his hindquarters...
Didn't meet the same fate as Nancy Johnson's!:mad:

Too bad..but I can't say I'm surprised...they're going to try as hard as they can to pin this quagmire of Dub's on us over the next two years...and it's up to US...not just our Congressional leaders, but ALL of us...to fight that lie as hard as we can. Dub & Co. got us into this; let's not let them abdicate the responsibility for getting us out of it!

B-)

5. One of our goals
For 2008 is should be to go after Chris Shays big time. He's been quite the
smart ass since his recent win. I hope he realizes two years just flies by
and his days may be numbered. I sure hope so.

9. In some ways he is correct, most Democrats voted for the IWR
It was bipartisan. He is wrong in that it continues to be so. Democrats were reluctant followers at the beginning but that has changed. Now they are eager Leaders and Republicans are toast....It does not need a bipartisan solution at all it just needs a solution because even the worst Republicans like shays himself says there needs to be a solution, IOW there is a major problem...They have finally admitted that fact anyway. Democrats will solve the problem just as they have solved most problems created by Republicans in the past. Democrats still believe in the intellect and putting intelligent heads together to solve things. Republicans believe being a C student is good enough for them and intellectuals are boring people....

10. The buck always stops with the Democrats
We're the party that has to come in and clean up the mess left by the irresponsible Republicans, whether it's the Civil War, the Great Depression, Watergate, the Savings and Loan mess, Somalia, or the second generation of the disastrous Bush years, Democrats are always the grown-ups who come home to the trashed house who have to clean it up.

{Sits back to listen for the satisfying little "pop" of exploding Freeper heads}
