Why did KO just say it would be "impolite" to ask certain questions

of Laurence O'Donnell regarding people who go on news shows who have never served in a war?


O'Donnell started crying at the end and I hope it was not because KO upset him but because what he was saying was so profound. It got me crying too.

5. Exactly what KO said was

that "there are political questions to follow up but it would be impolite and disrespectful to the great point you (O'Donnell) raised to bring them up now." KO wasn't criticizing O'Donnell at all; he was being respectful of his point by refraining from bringing up politics.

being disrespectful when it is necessary. I bet his producers are breathing down his neck.

If you listen again to what he said (and I did, 3X), it was clear that he did not want to get into a partisan political discussion that might be disrespectful of O'Donnell's very powerful statement, which was far more important than politics, about the pundits and blowhards who blather about what should be done in Iraq but are too cowardly to serve in the military. He was absolutely NOT disagreeing with or contradicting what O'Donnell said.

8. O'Donell has mentioned on other shows that he was too cowardly

to serve in Vietnam, and wishes those supporting the war who did not serve would be equally honest. He says that admission should be required before anyone is allowed to discuss it.
