Who Here Has Read Obama's Books?
Either "Dreams From My Father" or "The Audacity of Hope". How did you like them? Also, what kind of impression did the books give you of Obama?

1. I read the first twenty pages of dreams of my father
I got a good vibe from it, interesting, and I'll have more to say once I read a little more.

2. I met him...
...at a book signing for his latest, and I saw his Iraq policy speech at the Council on Global Affairs Monday. Given the sleaze that's been poured over Dems for the last 12 years, his positions in the new book seem a little pie-in-the-sky idealistic, and nowhere near as harsh towards the Repub failures as I would like, but his idealism, his common sense left-of-centrism, is exactly where his rock star appeal derives from, I think.

3. I've read them both ...
the first one is more literary in nature, telling about growing up as a mixed race American. I liked it, but it wasn't exactly a page-turner.

The second one is more the standard political book that people write who are thinking of running for president. By that I mean it's standard in format, but it's written better than most such books. His intellect, personality, and sense of humor come through in the book. I enjoyed reading it more than the first one because I kept thinking to myself "yep, this guy needs to be president." Which is probably the impression he wants to give to the reader. In my case, it certainly worked, though I was sold on that notion before reading the book.
