Giuliani moves nearer to White House run Wed Nov 22, 9:46 AM ET

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061122/ap_on_el_pr/giuliani2008

WASHINGTON - Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission this week that takes him one step closer to running for president.

A filing on behalf of the man once dubbed "America's mayor" was hand-delivered to the commission on Monday, an FEC spokeswoman confirmed. It says Giuliani, a Republican, has created a "testing-the-waters" presidential exploratory committee.

The formal creation of the committee means Giuliani can now raise money and travel the country gauging support and preparing for a White House bid without formally declaring himself a candidate.

Giuliani, who achieved near-mythic popularity for his handling of the Sept. 11 attacks, filed similar paperwork earlier this month in New York to create the Rudy Giuliani Presidential Exploratory Committee Inc.

In addition to Giuliani, Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record), R-Ariz., has set up a presidential exploratory committee and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., also are weighing bids for the GOP nomination.

1. excellent! he's a one-man wedge issue for the republican party!
that should make for an ugly primary! let's cheer him on and keep him in it as long as possible. he'll NEVER win the nomination, but he can really bring out some dirt in the meanwhile!

5. I like your idea .. he'll hurt the GOP.
Rachel Maddow said he's hard to look at. Bless her for having the nerve to say what many must be thinking.

2. He's gonna make a lot of Repubs' heads explode!
Pro-choice. Tolerates gay rights. A divorced womanizer.

Yet, somehow, the media stooges will make these traits an asset to Giuliani. God forbid if a Dem was running with the same traits.

11. The Biggest Bombshell of all=his complicity with Cheney to create 9/11
In David Ray Griffin's definitive book: "The 9/11 Report-Omissions and Distortions" the reason for the total destruction of building #7= miles away from the Twin Towers was that Guliani's War Room- of planning & creating the horrifying events of 9/11- was IN bldg. 7!!

He was also in London standing just outside the subway that was bombed!!

He has alot to say re these events as does Cheney and the Bush Family, Marvin and an uncle etc.

The truth of 9/11 being an inside job must be picked up by the corporate media NOW!!

3. Hate to say it but if I had to deal with a Repuke for Prez he'd be my pick
at least the religious right doesn't have him wrapped around their little finger. Not saying he'd make a good prez before you start throwing produce just saying he disgusts me less than all the other repukes out there but he still disgusts me.

He won't even make it out of the booth before the holy sect of the republican party (which today IS the republican party) has him painted as a guy who did sexual favors for mob bosses involving farm animals donated by SNL at the start of primary time.

4. I agree - Ghouliani probably won't make it past the primaries.
His extramarital escapades and his tolerance of gay people won't play well with the fundies. There's also his relationship with that dubious character Bernie Kerik, and I'm willing to bet there are other skeletons in his closet. Fact is, until 9/11 he was a pretty unpopular mayor.

7. in fact, until 9/11, his career was widely considered to be OVER
it's amazing that basic competence, which is ALL that he displayed on 9/11, is such a rarity in the disgraced republican party that ghouliani goes from moribund to rock star overnight just for what should be EASY for any politician.

6. My guess is that Giuliani will change his stance on abortions and gays
before too long. Then all will be forgiven. The Repubs can look past a little marital infidelity as long as he hates gays.

8. right -- what he says to be mayor of ny will not line up with what he says
to win the disgraced republican primary.

10. I have never understood the hoopla over Guilliani making a speech in front of the rubble...
Edited on Thu Nov-23-06 02:52 AM by niceypoo
How that makes him some sort of hero is beyond me. As the new york police officer was buttraping Abner Louima with the broom handle he told him, "This is the Gulianni NYPD, we do things differently now." Thats the one thing about this guy that has always stuck with me.
