Marine Corps commandant: Marines stressed need to prepare for "long war"
Edited on Thu Nov-23-06 12:27 AM by ProSense
"There's two ways that you approach that -- one is reducing the requirement, the other is potentially growing the force for what we call the long war," he told reporters at the Pentagon

Snip...

Critics of the Iraq war say it has been a diversion from the fight against al Qaeda but Conway said the Marines were killing people in Iraq who would otherwise be trying to "work their way into Baltimore harbor or Los Angeles airport."

What about the innocent Iraqis being killed while the U.S. uses their country as a battleground?

Iraq is getting worse; Iraqis want U.S. out

It's time to admit it's over in Iraq

Edited to add "snip."

Three Marines killed fighting in Iraq

By STEVEN R. HURST, Associated Press Writer 31 minutes ago

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Three U.S. Marines were killed fighting in Anbar province, the area of western Iraq where many Sunni-Arab insurgents are based, the military said Thursday.

Assigned to Regimental Combat Team 7, the Marines died Wednesday from wounds sustained during enemy action, the command said.

The names of the deceased were withheld pending notification of relatives.

The deaths raised to at least 2,870 the number of U.S. servicemen who have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

2. Tweety had Gen. Batiste on yesterday...
and he had been very critical of the war under Rumsfeld, but he had tweety mumbling to himself when he came out for a real big buildup to get control in Iraq. I see this more and more, where people are trying to twist the 'new direction' thing into a bigger war. They still don't get it!

3. 180,000 is sufficient for peacetime ?
We've been there almost 4 years! What really ticks me off is that a lot pro-Bushies still BARK and BLAME CLINTON for cutting back from 192,000 during his administration!

Then expected us and the troops to believe the "go to war with what you've got" bullsh*t.

I wonder if Gen. Conway will be looking for a new job soon? Heh.
