I just think something like his Senate race and the inevitable coverage it would get has a real likelihood of hitting far more right buttons than bad with the public. He is a good spokesman. "Lies and the Lying Liars" was one of the best Democratic-party-promoting books written in the last decade, if not the best.

I know a good number of people it essentially converted or atleast knocked 3 ticks to the left, longterm.

As much as O'Reilly wishes Franken was seen as an extremist polarizer, he isn't. He's a comedy icon, particularly with Baby Boomers and Gen-Xers. Only have Gen-Yers (the ones who have gotten to know him) gotten to know him mostly as a partisan commentator.

2. Franken having a visible public platform can only be a good thing.
He's entertaining. He's fun to listen to. People will want to listen to him, and that's half the battle in getting your point across.

4. This is a very good point. Glad you brought it up.
I've spent my time imagining Al Franken on the Senate floor shaking things up. I'm absolutely sure that he'll be doin' that.

But, candidate Al Franken.... Hmmm. What impact will he have on the national political landscape? My guess is that he'll stay in Minnesota and campaign there most of the time to make sure that he can capture that Senate seat. However, I bet he'll still make the evening news just by being himself on the campaign trail.

I also hope that he gets himself a good security team for protection and that he's very careful about travelling by air.

(Any bets on exactly WHEN O'Reilly's head explodes during Al's campaign?)
