About Iraq on the Record
Presented by Rep. Henry A. Waxman

On March 19, 2003, U.S. forces began military operations in Iraq. Addressing the nation about the purpose of the war on the day the bombing began, President Bush stated: “The people of the United States and our friends and allies will not live at the mercy of an outlaw regime that threatens the peace with weapons of mass murder.” Two years later, many doubts have been raised regarding the Administration’s assertions about the threat posed by Iraq.

Prepared at the direction of Rep. Henry A. Waxman, Iraq on the Record is a searchable collection of 237 specific misleading statements made by Bush Administration officials about the threat posed by Iraq. It contains statements that were misleading based on what was known to the Administration at the time the statements were made. It does not include statements that appear mistaken only in hindsight. If a statement was an accurate reflection of U.S. intelligence at the time it was made, it was excluded even if it now appears erroneous. For more information on how the statements were selected, see the full methodology. The Iraq on the Record Report is a comprehensive examination of these statements.

Iraq on the Record is searchable by the the five Administration officials most responsible for providing public information and shaping public opinion on Iraq:

Waxman has Bush administration in sights

By ERICA WERNER, Associated Press WriterSat Nov 25, 2:12 PM ET

The lawmaker poised to cause the Bush administration's biggest headaches when Democrats take control of Congress may just be a grocer's son from Watts who's hardly a household name off Capitol Hill.

Rep. Henry Waxman (news, bio, voting record) has spent the last six years waging a guerrilla campaign against the White House and its corporate allies, launching searing investigations into everything from military contracts to Medicare prices from his perch on the Government Reform Committee.

In January, Waxman becomes committee chairman — and thus the lead congressional hound of an administration many Democrats feel has blundered badly as it expanded the power of the executive branch.

Waxman's biggest challenge as he mulls what to probe?

"The most difficult thing will be to pick and choose," he said.

The choices he makes could help define Bush's legacy.

"There is just no question that life is going to be different for the administration," said Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., the current committee chairman. "Henry is going to be tough. ... And he's been waiting a long time to be able to do this."

He always seems to be a hero.

Thanks for posting. I don't usually link to articles on Yahoo because they are usually no longer than what has been quoted in the thread. But this was worth it. Thanks for posting.

Now where do we read the 237 misleading statements in the Iraq on Record?

Recapitulating recent history in lists, tables, graphs, side-by-side comparisons is worth it - the fastest way to educate all the busy people and the fastest way to keep the memory prompted to strike back at a lie.

9. Henry better have some good people watching his back. He's not
just bucking a corrupt administration. He's going up against their corporate benefactors and also the corrupt 'intelligence' apparatus that lied to get us into Iraq.

He's making some mighty powerful enemies. And what he's doing is is one of the true definitions of patriotism.

12. You left out the 9/11 Whitewash.
The widows' 300 questions, they were told, would be a "roadmap"
for the investigation.

200 of those questions got no response whatsoever.

11. To me the one factor that ties all together and should be what get investigated
Abuse of Power. Start with the Japanese fishing boat loaded with students that was sunk by a nuclear submarine that was being operated at the time by a civilian "oil baron" friend of Bush* that had no justifiable reason to be on a nuclear submarine let alone at the helm making an emergency ascension. Abuse of Power it is the key to every single action taken by this administration.
