PETITION FOR REDEPLOYMENT OF TROOPS FROM IRAQ

Dear Mr. President:

I agree with Senator Barbara Boxer that we should begin to redeploy our troops from Iraq now to allow Iraqis to begin to take charge of their own country and to remove our brave troops from the chaotic and dangerous situation there.

* By signing this petition, I authorize Senator Boxer to forward my name to the President.

* Personal information will ONLY be used to send you a reply, and will NOT BE SHARED.

4. Redeploy????
What the hell does that mean? Bring 'em home, now!

There is an idea floating around about "redeploying" troops "over the horizon". That way, they aren't getting shot at all the time, but they are still ready to meddle whenever "necessary". That is not a solution; it's a sugar-coated more of the same.

Is that what Boxer's redeploy means?

5. Relaxxxxx!!!!
Redeployment means for the troops and equipment to come back home to the US. Going over to Iraq is considered a deployment. Please sign the petition.

6. That's not what redeploy means.
Try define:deploy on google. You come up with

"place troops or weapons in battle formation".

That has nothing to do with bringing troops home, unless they are going to do battle against other Americans.

I won't sign the petition until I know what Boxer is calling for.

9. The petition says redeploy from Iraq
Edited on Mon Nov-27-06 10:01 AM by lwfern
Whether it's from there to the US or to another country, I'm not sure, and I share your concerns on that issue, although I signed it - because it does say FROM Iraq. Out of Iraq is better than in Iraq.

10. Redeploy from Iraq to....Iran, maybe?
According to Sy Hersch last Sunday's "Late Edition", there's a serious U.S. military build-up around Iran today.

Seymour Hersch believes that Bush, and Israel haven't backed down from their plans to launch an attack on Iran even though they failed to get the Israeli and U.S. people to back another war, namely, one against Iran during Israeli military action against Lebanon.

It still worries me to see "Iran=Bad, Iran=Bad" throughout cable media even today, and that's why "redeploy" has gotten a lot less attractive to me.

It's not redeployment of our troops we need now. It's getting Congress to withdraw the Iraq War Resolution--which was supposed to be temporary to begin with!--that would bring our troops HOME.

I would sign Boxer's petition if it were clear to me that she is not pulling a linquistic fast one.

14. I'm not signing my Senator's petition either. Knowing now the true meaning of...
...the Iraq War Resolution; a resolution founded on the War Powers Act (Congress giving temporary authorization for military force), and not Article I Section 8 of the Constitution (a declaration of War by Congress) which means, Congress has the power to stop the Iraq war within literally, a few months if they so choose;

...hearing and reading Seymour Hersch's cry since last year October/November, and repeated in April this year (http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content/articles/060417fa_fact ) and again on Late Edition (http://thinkprogress.org/2006/11/19/hersh-iran-agent/ ) that America needs to realize the Bush* Regime and the Israelis are hellbent to launch war in IRAN;

...hearing now from Sy Hersch on Late Edition Sunday 11/19/2006 that there is already a substantial U.S. Military presence around the Iranian borders today;

...having discovered that Iran's real leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, who is Ahmadenijad’s boss" has TWICE reached out to the Bush Regime for a peaceful resolution back in May 2003, and again in June 2006 only to be rebuffed, and to be ignored by U.S. media: http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article14496.htm ;

...redeployment" has taken on a more sinister connotation.

That's why I cannot, in good conscience, sign my beloved Senator's petition.

17. Judging by your Avatar I think you would qualify real well to ask that question
Go to her site and fire off an email to her there. I used my AKO email as the return address so she knew I was a for real Veteran. http://boxer.senate.gov

The thing I like is she is at least using a petition format did you see V and his attempts to get a petition through to the Government.

23. Thanks. The Avatar is of my last surviving sister. Yes, she served in Iraq...
...from October 2004 to October 2005.

Our other sister passed away January 4, 1996 at the age of 30.

For me, with regards to Rhea, it was horrible; to be against this war, and then to have your last living sister heading into Iraq with her husband whom she'd married just a month prior.

Some honeymoon, huh?

She enlisted in 1994, and has gone to the Tennessee National Guard. She was there when her unit was deployed to Iraq, and she's seen good friends die when their Humvees hit IEDs. Three of them right before her eyes. She won't talk to me about what happened there, and prefers not to think about it.

Luckily, she was stationed in the heart of Baghdad where it was "safer", but that didn't help her much when she was out on convoy where the IED attacks shook her to the bottom of her core forever.

I just don't want to sign any petition for redeployment that could unknowingly allow Bush to redeploy our troops into Iran. Until I have clarity on that, I won't put my name to any petition.

deploy out of Iraq might mean deploy into Iran. Do you think that is better than remaining in Iraq?

Here's what BlueCaliDem04 has to say about it elsewhere on this thread:

21. I agree. How do we know they actually get seen by anyone? Anyone seen any proof?
Not that I'm knocking Boxer. What she's doing is great. I just don't know if there is really a point. I used to sign all of them but then one of my senators and my representative started blocking all emails that didn't come directly through their sites. And I just don't know if it is worth it to sign the petitions. Who sees them? If anybody can show me that I'm wrong to doubt, I'd be happy to start up again, but you gotta show me.
